As we all know another deadly hurricane is on its way to destroy more than just buildings and homes in Florida. The golf community is bracing for this hit from Mother Nature i.e. Hurricane Milton. This natural disaster is knocking on the doors of Floridians just mere weeks after Hurricane Helene devastated Augusta National Golf Club and other courses. This Category 5 hurricane is speeding towards Florida’s Gulf Coast which is as horrifying as it sounds, especially for resident safety.
The LPGA has postponed the qualifying stage of the Q-Series which was originally scheduled for October 13-18, 2024, at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida, as precautionary measures. The decision has been made as a priority for the safety of athletes, caddies, staff, volunteers, and the local community. “Due to the potential impacts of Hurricane Milton and with the safety of athletes, caddies, staff, volunteers, and the local community as our top priority, we have postponed the Qualifying Stage of LPGA Q-Series, originally scheduled for October 13–18, 2024, at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida”, posted LPGA Tour on Twitter.
While there might be no updates from the LPGA Tour yet, some people are surely taking advantage of the storm. Golfing social media personality Karin Hart took to Instagram to show the fun she’s been having during the hurricane. The golfer was seen showcasing her skills in the strong winds in a video. “Looks like I can check “playing golf in a hurricane” off my bucket list… 🙃⛳️ A moment of fun in the midst of staying safe & praying everyone being affected by #HurricaneMilton 🙏🏼 Once this passes I will be helping relief efforts with my crew @anchorsnonprofit”, read the caption.

Starting off strong with what this one fan had to say, “Golf every day no excuses 😂👏👏👏”, and well they’re quite right because Hart has indeed taken the saying ‘make most of every moment’ to a whole new level. Hart is known as a rival of Paige Spiranac in the golf world and while that is something Hart needs to work for, fans were utterly surprised to see that the golfer was playing in a category 5 hurricane. Another fan said, “Karin never ever do that again, you may get hit by lightning”, expressing their concerns for the 35-year-old golfer.
While another fan said, “Be careful @karinhart” and well they are right. Florida’s Gulf Coast was still reeling from Hurricane Helene’s impact, just two weeks ago and now they are already preparing for the impending storm. Fans are sending prayers to the people of Florida in these devastating times. Workers are racing to clear debris while highways are jammed with evacuees trying to escape ahead of Hurricane Milton’s forecasted landfall in Tampa Bay. This area has not experienced a direct hit from a major hurricane in over a century which only adds to the concerns.

Hart herself commented on her post saying, “*no clubs were broken in the making of this video*”. Well, that might not be true because while playing in the strong winds Hart lost the grip of one of her clubs and it flew with the wind some meters away. So yes, the club may indeed be harmed! “Oh lord . Gonna need a new grip shaft and head”, said another fan about the same. You might be surprised to see just how many fans were concerned for her safety and well, they have a good reason to be. The golfer is also a cancer survivor and was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer. She had to go through surgery, radiotherapy, and hormone treatments. However, it was declared that she was cancer-free in 2011. So it’s not hard to understand Hart’s courage. After all, she had faced death up close! What are your thoughts on Hart’s new video?
