Just a month ago, Jeffrey Guan made his PGA Tour debut as he teed up at the Procore Championship. But now, he is in a long recovery process to regain his eyesight back in the left eye. If you are unaware, the 20-year-old amateur from the Land Down Under recently met with a career-threatening accident. Guan was playing in the Pro-Am of the NSW Open’s qualifying event at the Catalina Club. After playing through 6 holes, the unfortunate incident occurred. The rising star from Australia posted a carousel on Instagram and explained what actually entailed before the incident.
Guan recalled that he drove the cart to the place where his ball had landed. As he went towards the cart to put his club back, an errant golf ball hit his left eye. After that, Guan said, “The instant ringing and pain rushed to my head, and I dropped to the ground. Voices sounded pretty muffled and the next thing I knew, I was in an ambulance being transported to hospital.” From Moriya Hospital, the 20-year-old golfer was airlifted to Canberra for better treatment. After his first surgery, he was then shifted to the Sydney Eye Hospital for another procedure. The next two weeks were unbearable, as the pressure in his eye for abnormally high.
But by the third week, it went back to normal but the doctor confirmed that due to many fractures in his eye socket, full recovery would take at least 6 months to a year. During his time at the hospital, many questions disturbed Guan. He wondered about his future and thought, “Why did this happen?” Will he be able to play golf at a high level and become a better golfer? These thoughts were all that surrounded his world.

However, through this devastating pain, Guan had a huge support group around him, who offered him strength and encouragement to move past the painful days and look for a better future. As Guan thanked everyone who supported him in the days of recovery, the golf world once again showed their support for the Aussie prodigy.

Last year, at the Fortinet Australian PGA Championship, as Min Woo Lee lifted the winner’s trophy, Jeffrey Guan was also given the Rookie of the Week cup for his low amateur performance at the Royal Queensland Golf Club. Guan and Lee shared a few moments after the victory and struck a good friendship thereafter. As Guan goes throw a challenging time, Lee emotionally commented, “Hopefully see you soon out there. Thinking of you legend ❤️.” Another pro golfer from Australia, Ryan Ruffels reassured Guan of his future and said, “You’re going to do amazing things bro! Thinking of you legend ❤️🙌🏼”
