Records are meant to be broken. The latest to justify this statement is the 2022 Open Championship winner, Cameron Smith. Ever since his debut in 2013, the current World No. 2 has been impressing the golf world with his performance. However, it is the year 2022 that has statistically been the most fruitful for him so far.

Following his win at the 2022 Players Championship and the 2022 Open Championship, the 29-year-old Australian recently made headlines for his impressive stats. Making birdie or better 38.3% of the time on the green this season, he now holds the best percentage in the history of the PGA Tour.

Learning about the stats, Golf Digest recently took to its Twitter handle, sharing the news in the hope of getting praising reactions from fans. However, little did they know that the fans were fumed up with something bigger. While a handful of fans commended Smith for the stats, a majority of them slammed the Australian for his participation rumors in the LIV Golf Tour.

Over the past one year, numerous players have come into the rage of golfing fans over joining LIV Golf. Smith is no different. Even though his participation remains an-undisclosed news to date, fans have started giving a glimpse of their potential reaction upon the confirmation of the news.

Needless to say, the applaud worthy feat clearly acted as a spark in the already lit fire. Learning about the feat, a Twitter user reacted saying, “And he’s going to use his talent to chase money instead of history. I can’t blame him though. He is young and getting all the wrong advice from people with no talent, except for making more money. What a waste.”

While the above user alleged Smith of choosing money over history, a couple of other users termed his alleged move as an act of ‘shame’. “Now going to a tour where you don’t even have to practice anymore, shame, he could of been a great,” a user wrote. “Shame he doesn’t play competitive golf anymore. Exhibition player…,” another user added.

Digging further, a couple of users showered their praise over Smith’s potential in the game. However, their anger after seeing him join the LIV Tour clearly overpowered the praise.

While numerous fans slammed Smith for his alleged move with long messages, a fan opted to take a one-liner but impactful dig. He wrote, Allegedly he can LIV with it”

While the majority of the golfing world expressed their disapproval over Smith’s alleged move, a handful of them opted to focus on the positive. Learning about the stately statistics, a user wrote, “pretty impressive.”

With a year-to-date score of 66.8 in total putting, Smith stands in second spot in the Total Putting leaderboard.

While a handful of fans opted to see the positive, a majority of them showed their rage towards his alleged shift to LIV Golf. While the golfing world awaits the confirmation of the news, Smith, on the other hand, is all set to take part in the Tour Championship starting from tomorrow.
