Lee Westwood might be one of the few golfers who have won tournaments and fame across the five continents. However, the decorated player’s latest action has gathered hate from the fans. He shared a video on Twitter in which he has offered fans free tickets for the inaugural LIV Golf Tournament. As expected, many fans were unhappy with the golfer’s move and his participation in the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Tour.

The former World No.1 was announced to be a part of the inaugural LIV Golf event at the beginning of the month. As more and more players seem to consider joining the nemesis of PGA, Westwood appeared to be quite open and happy about his participation in the event.

Lee Westwood offered 100 fans free tickets for the LIV Golf Event. The only thing they had to do was retweet his tweet using the words ‘WESTWOOD25’ to get hold of the free tickets.

However, fans didn’t seem to admire his humble offering of the Tournament’s tickets. Instead, they began ranting about their hatred toward the tournament.

The LIV Golf Tour has been under massive public scrutiny for its financial backing being provided by the Saudi Public Investment Fund. Moreover, many seemed to worry that it may damage the history and relevancy of the PGA Tour.

Instead of retweeting with the word ‘WESTWOOD25’, fans were quick to criticize the 49-year-old for his participation in the tournament. Many directed their anger toward the LIV Tour and Saudi Arabian human rights history, while many others aimed their anger by calling the participants greedy.

Details about the Inaugural LIV Golf Event

After months of speculations, LIV Golf is finally having its first tournament despite the backlash from fans. The event organizers released a list of 42 players who will be taking part in the inaugural event.

The golf world was quite shocked to know that Dustin Johnson will be headlining the event. It was reported that the former world number one will earn around $125 Million for participating in the LIV Tour.

In order to get an upper hand over the LIV Tour, the PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has warned players that they would face stiff penalties for competing in the rival circuit. The tour issued another statement saying as much again on Wednesday.

Despite this, the event will take place from June 9th to 11th at the Centurion Club in London. It will be broadcasted live on YouTube for free or will be available on the Tour’s official website.
