

An essential part of professional golf, and golf in general, are caddies. A caddie is a person who hauls the bag and is permitted to walk the round with the golfer. However, their role in the players’ life is indispensable and definitely not limited to only carrying their equipment. It is a crucial one, though often undermined, as they offer essential guidance and motivation while in play.

To commemorate and immortalize their services, the Caddie Hall of Fame was created in 1999. It was originally started by the Professional Caddies Association, but of late, it has been administered by the Western Golf Association. Every year, some are added to the list of 100+ members and these were the recent additions-
The 4 men who recently joined the golf Caddie Hall of Fame
Dr. Joe Schmidt
Dr. Schmidt, the first of the four men, has been the Director of the Western Golf Association since 1999. He served as the chairman of the caddie committee and, for his important role in propelling the role of caddies forward in golf, he was honored in a special ceremony on August 12, 2021.
Jimmy Johnson
A name you must’ve heard quite often, Jimmy Johnson is a popular caddie on the PGA Tour. He initially started out on the Sunshine Tour in 1979. Subsequently, in 2015, he made his move to Justin Thomas’ bag, and they have been together for 14 PGA Tour wins, including the 2017 PGA Championship.
An emotional Johnson revealed, “I’m pleasantly surprised, to be honest. But when I first heard the news, I was shocked. I told Vince (Pellegrino, senior vice-president of tournaments for the Western Golf Association) when he called me with the news that it would have been the furthest thing from my mind.”
Charles Schwab
In his early life, Schwab was a caddie and an avid golfer, who founded the Stock Farm Club in Montana. For his important role, he was inducted into the hall of fame on May 25th, 2021, at the Charles Schwab Challenge, an annual PGA Tour event.

He started caddying in 1971, which is when he developed a passion for the sport. Gradually, he climbed the steps, and in 1996, he was named Riverside’s head golf professional, a position he has been in since that day. For his fantastic work in the field and promoting the role of caddies, he was inducted in 2021.
