LIV Golf and hate are two words that go hand in hand for many golfers. We do remember how Rory McIlroy openly criticized LIV Golf, suggesting that players who join the league are opting for “the easy way out.” The league has faced multiple comparisons with the PGA Tour’s prestige and mere golf-focused playoffs. Justin Thomas also shared his frustrations over the endless PGA Tour and LIV Golf talks, revealing he’s “past the level of exhaustion.” But this time, the annoyance is directed solely at LIV.
Many highlight LIV’s big dollar signs. Like Eugenio Chacarra noted in LIV, “nothing changes; there is only money,” tapping the lack of differentiation between player performances. Similarly, six-time major champion Nick Faldo didn’t hold back his thoughts. In a recent interview with talkSport, Faldo took a swipe at LIV Golf and its players, saying they should “just go and do their own thing.” He believes the lack of a cut in LIV events has taken away from the players’ competitive desire, making them soft and complacent.
Per the latest post by NUCLR Golf, Sir Nick Faldo is sounding off on LIV Golf, and he’s not mincing words. “Personally I think they should just go and do their own thing. LIV – go and play. It’s caused a ruckus.” Faldo’s frustration stems from the league’s monetary focus, which he believes has gotten out of hand. “Everything is about money, and I think the average person would say ‘Hang on a minute, you’re waltzing around the bloody field hitting a golf ball and it’s preposterous it’s out of hand.'” He also criticizes the league’s “fail-free” approach, saying it makes players soft.

Faldo’s harshest criticism, however, is reserved for LIV Golf’s business model. “LIV is a business model, the one and only business model in the world where money’s going out the window and little is coming in.” He’s unimpressed with the league’s financial strategy, and his parting words are blunt, “Good luck to them – go and do your own thing.” It’s clear Faldo has strong feelings about LIV Golf’s impact on the sport, and he’s not afraid to share them.

Now, the fans are also quick to share their thoughts on Faldo’s words, and well, it’s safe to say that the golf world is yet again divided.
Netizens are split over Nick Faldo’s scathing remarks about LIV Golf
Starting strong with one fan said, “Preach, Sir Nick. No lies detected. 🙏” while the other said, “100%. If I was the PGA Tour, I wouldn’t do a deal with them at all.” Well, this isn’t the first time Faldo has taken a stance against the Saudi-backed league. Last year, Sir Nick Faldo expressed his belief that LIV Golf should remain separate from the established tours, disagreeing with Jon Rahm’s notion that a swift resolution to golf’s civil war was possible. With progress on the “Framework Agreement” announced by the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund being slow, Faldo reiterated his stance, saying LIV Golf should “go and do their own thing” and that he’s happy if PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan’s recent remarks mean LIV Golf will stay separate.

Some fans blunting took a stance against the golfer’s words, and they wrote, “Wrong Faldo!… Golf has so much potential!.. LIV is helping unlock it”, and “He’s mad he didn’t get paid like the guys do today!” See, fans saying Faldo is taking a dig at LIV Golf is kind of understandable since Faldo has mentioned his appreciation for Tyrrell Hatton playing in his Betfred British Masters, saying “he wants to come play a proper tournament” – a clear jab at the Saudi-backed league.
There is, however, another window to look out from. A 2023 survey by TheLines revealed that 29% of respondents had a more favorable view of LIV golfers, while 14% viewed them less favorably. This suggests that while some fans are warming up to LIV, a significant portion is still sitting on the fence, undecided about the league’s impact. One fan said something that many of you would agree on: “Pretty much sums it up”, and so, it seems like we might need an update on the LIV survey. But, what are your thoughts on what Faldo said?
