Phil Mickelson, one of the best golfers of all time, has currently alienated himself, even socially. Ever since he got involved in the Saudi-backed Golf League controversy, he has disappeared into thin air. Not just the media, but even his good friends and colleagues find it is impossible to reach out to him.

“I’ve tried to reach out,” Bryson DeChambeau said when a reporter asked him if he could communicate with Lefty. DeChambeau was talking to the press after the practice round at the Augusta National when he opened up about Phil.

“There’s nothing. He’s gone… he’s gone dark,” Bryson added. “There’s no contact.” 

The golf world still hasn’t gotten over the fact that Mickelson will not be playing at the Masters this year. Fans have been speculating that the PGA Tour has suspended him for accusing them of their dictatorship rule. However, neither PGA nor Mickelson had commented on it.

Mickelson faced controversy after his comments about the Saudi League were published online. Although he had issued a public apology later, the damage had already been done. Due to the same, he lost many of his sponsors, including KPMG and Workday.

The last time Mickelson talked to the public was when he posted the apology letter on social media. In the letter, he had mentioned taking a break, and ever since then, he has cut all ties with the media and public.

2022 would be the first time Phil Mickelson will have missed the Masters Tournament in the last 28 years.

Mickelson’s relationship with the Masters began in 1991 when he was just an amateur. However, it took him more than a decade to win the title. He had won his first Masters in 2004; It was also the first time he won a major.

Later, the golfer won the Masters two more times, in 2006 and 2010. With his 2010 win, Lefty became the 8th player to win the tournament at least three times.

Mickelson has made the cut 26 times in his 30 appearances at the championship. The World Golf Hall of Famer has also recorded the top 10 finishes 15 times and the top 5 11 times.

Mickelson is eligible to get an invitation for the Masters. However, he hasn’t received one this year. Even though neither PGA Tour nor Mickelson have made any statements regarding the same yet, the golf world believes that it has to do with his connection to the Saudi League.
