Golf’s ongoing civil war between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf has been the subject of intense speculation and divided opinions over the past few years. With players torn between the two tours, fans have watched as professional golf has struggled to find a way to unite. However, the resolution may now be closer than ever, and it appears the figure who could bridge this divide is one many didn’t expect: President Donald Trump.
NUCLR Golf took to their official X account and reported, “Per @GolfDigest, sources at the PGA TOUR believe Trump National Doral in Miami could return to its schedule and that the President is ‘imperative’ to a deal getting done. TOUR sources ‘adamant’ that Trump is on their side w/ ‘more progress made than has been reported.’” Trump’s involvement with golf has always been prominent, especially with LIV Golf’s events hosted at his properties.
Despite his past fallouts with the PGA Tour, his ties to key figures from both LIV and the PGA Tour have now positioned him as a crucial player in the current negotiations. According to PGA Tour sources, Trump’s role is vital in helping bring the two sides together, with some insiders confident that more progress has been made in negotiations than has been made public. The potential return of Trump National Doral to the PGA Tour’s schedule is now being considered, a clear indication of how the dynamics have shifted.

Trump’s deep understanding of the game, combined with his influence and experience in the business world, makes him an invaluable asset in the talks to unify the sport. While the specifics of any deal are still unclear, it’s becoming evident that Trump’s involvement could be the catalyst that ends golf’s civil war. The return of his courses to the PGA Tour, particularly Trump National Doral, could mark the first significant step toward a resolution. With both sides now working together, the sport’s fractured future may be on the verge of coming back together—thanks to an unexpected powerbroker.

Golf Community reinforces Trump Doral to host a Major
LIV Golf’s inception back in 2022 took away great names like Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau from the American Tour. This meant they would be playing in a different league from top players like Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, and others. Ever since the viewership rates of golf have been declining. All the golf community wants is for all the players to come together and compete against each other for a good game of golf, and that’s what this current news might mean. Taking to this, people left comments like, “Make pro golf great again” and “ Trump is on the golf fans’ side. He’s a fan of the game!”

Could Trump be the unexpected savior of golf, or is this just another divisive move?

In January, LIV Golf confirmed that it would return to the Trump family’s Doral resort in April, marking a clear indication that business ties between the Trump family and Saudi-backed financing will persist under the new presidency. Many now believe that only hosting a major tournament at the course can truly restore the prestige it once held. Taking to this, one of them wrote, “It should host some tournaments in the future, perhaps even a major championship in the future”.

However, let’s not forget that the merger was announced back on June 6, 2023, and the deadline for it was December 31, 2023. It is going to be almost two years since the golf fans were given hope, and over three years since the sport has been in splits. No matter how convincing things look, some fans choose not to believe anything unless there is an official announcement. Taking to this, people left comments like, “I loath that relationship. Less Trump is always better than more Trump,” and “Making deal w/ 2 devils now. Trump is better w/ LIV, they both made for each other”.
