Kyle Berkshire is not your average pro golfer. He might not have multiple PGA Tour titles under his name or major championship wins under his belt, but his long drives might make the likes of Rory McIlroy envious.

Currently, at Rochelle to take part in the World Long Drive Championship, the current No. 1 is gearing up to break the long drive world record. But ahead of this, the 26-year-old golfer broke another record, setting the netizens into a frenzy.

Just like Berkshire, the World Long Drive Championship is not your average tournament. Unlike the PGA Tour, DP World Tours, or LIV Golf, here the golfers’ skill is measured by how long they can shoot. Although there is a range of 40–60 yards where the ball must land, the golf courses don’t have different areas such as fairways, greens, and roughs.

Berkshire, the current champion, is all set to break his previous year’s record this time. There are only a few who can match, let alone edge, his raw power. Ahead of setting a new long-range shooting record, he has now set a new world record for shooting at the highest speed.

In a video from Nuclr Golf, the two-time World Long Drive champion is seen hitting the ball with a Herculean mash at a staggering 241.6 mph. Notably, his earlier record was 233.4 mph. To put this into perspective, the average ball speed on the PGA Tour is 172.95 mph.

Netizens, unsurprisingly, went bananas since the video went viral early today, with some awed over the power behind the shot, some a little amused, and a few yet to recover from the Ryder Cup fever, wondering if it would have landed in the bunker or in the roughs.

What do the fans have to say about the Long Drive Championship victor?

The power behind the shot made one fan wonder how far the ball would have landed.

If anyone had any doubt, the recently concluded Ryder Cup showed the importance of putting the ball on the fairways in case it doesn’t reach the greens. This fan probably had that in mind.

Another user also quipped on similar lines about how he would have bogeyed the hole. It should be noted that Long Drive professionals train for different outcomes.

One user saw the funny side of the locale. The golfer, apparently, shot this in a conference room with a number of people cheering for him.

Does the current Long Drive champion have a lookalike in PGA Tour pro Aaron Baddeley? One fan certainly thinks so. It’s probably the floating locks of the Australian-American golfer that compelled them to make the comparison.

Rory McIlroy, the current No. 2, is also known for taking long tee shots. To date, his longest drive has been a whopping 427 yards. Berkshire’s 241.5 mph shot made one fan curious about how fast McIlroy shoots. On record, the four-time Major winner shot off the ball at 190.59 mph at the DP World Tour Championship back in 2022.

Rochelle Ranch Golf Course is set to host the World Long Drive Championship. The current world record for the longest drive is 515 yards by the 65-year-old Mike Austin. That record was set in 1975.
