We are heading right into the darling arms of the Masters Tournament in a couple of weeks. While the defending champion, Scottie Scheffler, doesn’t seem anywhere near his 2024 season form, Rory McIlroy seems to have stolen the remaining attention. This comes with McIlroy’s The PLAYERS Championship win–with the golfer taking home a whopping $4.5 million and 750 FedExCup points! Considering McIlroy’s history with major championships, the stakes are undoubtedly high. Add to that the World No. 2 golfer’s statement “I’m feeling really comfortable… with how I am fighting my ball in the wind,” and you know the competition is going to be tough. But hey, we aren’t here to talk about that.

We are here to talk about the controversies surrounding the Masters Tournament. Last year, Australian golfer Jason Day became the subject of derision when he walked into the Thursday match with Malbon’s baggy pants, complete with an elastic waistband and ankle cords. It wasn’t the first time Day had done it–but fans laughed anyway. So, is it again about baggy pants, you ask? No. This time it’s about drinks.

Yes, Augusta National has just released a limited edition Masters drinks kit with only 23 days left to the prestigious tournament! So, what’s so controversial about it, you wonder? Well, it has everything to do with its price. Allow us to tell you. This limited edition Azalea kit comes at a hefty price of $64.95. Additionally, the kit will serve 6 drinks and includes options like Non-Alcoholic Azalea Cocktail Mix, Masters Souvenir Cups (pack of 6), and Masters Coasters (pack of 12). What else is there? Masters Branded Stirrers (pack of 6), Masters Cocktail Jigger (1), and Recipe Card.

Fans are divided. Look back at the last year’s concession price and you will understand. Sports economist Steve Salaga said low prices have everything to do with how much fans are paying outside it. He added, “I think the affordable concession pricing is an appealing aspect of the consumer experience.” Consequently, fans are divided now. So, let’s take a look at a few examples.

The golf world is divided about this little Augusta National initiative

This @NUCLRGOLF post questioning “will you be ordering” has garnered a bunch of reactions on different spectrums. Take a look at the first one. It’s quite funny. “Lemonade and grenadine are cheap af tho. That swag isn’t worth $60.” Makes sense. Named after the beautiful pink flowers that bloom every April at the course, the Azalea is popular and costs only $2. Another fan added, “Cancel everyone that orders this for $65.” This reminded the fans of the Ryder Cup tickets controversy–one that divided golf fans into two. A waste of money? Likely.
