“I hope my grandkids enjoy it”, said a golf enthusiast as they reacted to the latest report from the USGA. The promising update shared by NUCLR Golf was regarding the prestigious Walker Cup tournament. An event that has seen some of the biggest golfers in the world rise up through the ranks as amateurs. This includes Tiger Woods, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and many other big names.
In fact, Scheffler was also a part of the best-ever squads in the 2017 Walker Cup. He was paired with PGA Tour pros Collin Morikawa, Will Zalatoris, Maverick McNealy, and Braden Thornberry, who has spoken about Morikawa and Scheffler’s abilities during their amateur days. Jordan Spieth also had a great run in the 2011 Walker Cup teaming up with Harris English, Patrick Cantlay, and others. Despite the amazing history of the tournament finding the biggest stars, fans mocked USGA for the most recent headline coming from their headquarters.
Turns out the golf authority shared the venue for one of the future Walker Cup events. Pine Valley will host youngsters from across the globe in an exciting contest between Great Britain and Ireland and the USA. However, the reason one of the fans commented, “I hope my grandkids enjoy it”, is that the venue was chosen for the 2044 edition of the tournament.

Yes, you read that right. As NUCLR Golf confirmed, “🚨🌲⛳️ #NEW: Pine Valley, which is regarded as one of America’s top ranked golf courses will host the 2044 Walker Cup, the USGA has announced (📸:@GOLF_com)”. The event is still 19 years away, and yet the USGA is planning so far ahead in time for it. So it doesn’t come as a surprise that the fans immediately jumped on to ridicule the update.

Some questioned the objective behind releasing the information, while others teased about marking their calendar. Overall, the whole comment section shared quite hilarious responses. Let’s see what they had to say.

Fans sarcastically confirm their plans to attend the 2044 Walker Cup
Well, such absurd reports deserve equally ludicrous responses. And the golf community didn’t fail to turn USGA’s latest news into a comedy show. Many of the fans mentioned “Marking my calendar.”, or something in those lines. We can assume they are all just monkeying around as one fan also sarcastically added, “Counting down the days – fire me up”. One fan also ironically said, “Just checked the calendar, I happen to be free”, suggesting that they don’t have any dental appointments scheduled in 2024. Seems like tickets to Pine Valley will be fully sold out in the next 10 years.
Then there were fans who pointed out the comically obvious: “Those players aren’t even born!”. The Walker Cup doesn’t have an age limit. In fact, the oldest player to participate in the tournament was the 65-year-old Michael Scott. And no, we’re not talking about Steve Carell’s beloved ‘The Office’ character. But it usually features young amateurs who are progressing towards a Tour card in the following years. So we can assume that the 2044 Walker Cup might have a few golfers who would be under 19 years of age.

In fact, one fan also stated that they might get to see “Charlie Woods son’s debut” in the tournament. However, we would like to clarify that the chances of that happening are minimal, considering Woods is still too young to start a family. Maybe USGA’s update about the 2050 Walker Cup venue next week might be a better place to comment on that.
Continuing to mock the potential golfers’ age in the 2044 Walker Cup, one fan commented, “My three year old will be too old for this unfortunately”. As hilarious as it may read, he is not wrong, considering that their child would be 22 by the time the tournament is played. Fans would expect them to receive their PGA Tour card by then.
There was someone who said, “If you need me, I’ll just be quitting my job and at the range working on my game for the next 2-19 years to play on the Walker Cup team… These venues are ridiculous.”. They were clearly not amused by the ridiculous plans the USGA is making at the moment.

If the 2044 Walker Cup doesn’t fit your schedule, then might we recommend the 2025 edition of the tournament? It will be played at the Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, California from September 6-7, 2025. We apologize for the last minute update about the same.
