Remember when Kevin Kisner absolutely shanked that bunker shot, smacked the flagstick, and had Tiger Woods laughing so hard he was in tears? Yeah, the internet never forgets. And now, thanks to the latest TGL showdown between New York Golf Club and Jupiter Links, we’ve got another all-time classic. And this time the face of the recent controversy is none other than Tiger Woods.

This match was Tiger Woods’s first since his mother passed, marking a comeback of sorts for him. Expectations were high, naturally. He didn’t meet them. So what happened was on the 13th hole, Woods thought he had 99 yards to the flag. So, naturally, he pulled out his 56-degree sand wedge—perfect for a 100-yard shot—took his swing, and felt good about it. The problem? He actually had 199 yards to the pin, not 99. His ball came up about, well, 100 yards short of where it needed to be.

Kisner’s reaction said it all: “What is he doing? He’s got a wedge!?” Woods, still confused, fired back: “You said 99 yards!? I heard you say 99, not 199.” Kisner and Tom Kim could barely contain themselves, laughing hysterically as Woods realized what had just happened. Even Tiger had to admit it was “the most embarrassing” moment of his career.

The match was already decided—New York Golf Club cruised to a 10-3 win—but at least Jupiter Links delivered some A+ entertainment. Something even Max Homa agreed to after the Kisner mishap. And now, golf fans everywhere have some thoughts…

Fans troll Tiger Woods after hilarious TGL mishap

One miscommunication, and boom—instant meme material. And right now, Tiger Woods is at the center of it. His yardage mix-up during the TGL match didn’t just cost him a good shot; it turned into prime internet entertainment. Fans were quick to react, with one pleading, “SOMEBODY GIVE TIGER THE CORRECT YARDAGE,” because, well, that little detail kind of matters in golf.

This isn’t the first time a communication error has led to on-course blunders. During the 2023 Ryder Cup, U.S. captain Zach Johnson advised Jordan Spieth to switch from a driver to a three-wood on the 16th hole—a decision that resulted in Spieth’s shot finding the water. So yeah Woods, it happens.

The night’s disaster class didn’t go unnoticed either. One fan compared it to previous TGL tripleheader Presidents’ Day matches saying, “Welp… if yesterday’s 3 TGL matches proved how GOOD TGL can be… Then tonight’s match is proving the opposite… yikes.” Ouch. Another echoed the sentiment, writing “Yesterday
@TGL was fantastic…tonight = terrible. Poor Tom Kim.” That’s been the story of TGL, one match it’s all about triumphant and victorious moments, while others are just meh. Sure, this one wasn’t but game-wise? We will let you decide.

Of course, the jokes didn’t stop there. A fan quipped sarcastically, “Maybe the problem wasn’t DJ Khaled. taking a playful dig at Jupiter Links’ ongoing struggles. This jest refers to DJ Khaled’s involvement in TGL promotions, including recreating Woods’s iconic 2005 Masters shot. Another took it a step further, saying, “There’s a real chance Jupiter Links runs out of golf balls.” Considering their performance, it’s not the craziest theory.

For some, this was their first taste of TGL—and let’s just say it wasn’t a great introduction. “This has to be the worst match of @TGL to have be my first watch. Absolutely brutal. Tiger still can’t walk. Kisner has no idea where he’s at. Tom Kim is trying but Jupiter never stood a chance.”  Woods’s mobility has been a hot topic ever since his near-fatal crash in 2021, and even after multiple surgeries—including one in 2024—fans are still skeptical about how much his body can handle.

In the end, New York Golf Club won the match, but to be honest—fans probably won’t remember the score. They’ll remember Woods mishearing 199 for 99 and making history in the funniest way possible.
