Does Dustin Johnson's junior club challenge prove he's still got it, or is it just a gimmick?

LIV Golf has ended the 2024 season, but the pros are not off from the course yet. While golfers like Bryson DeChambeau indulge in their YouTube Channel content and entertain fans. On the other hand, Dustin Johnson has kept himself occupied with an out-of-the-box challenge. It seems that the LIV Golf pros are one-upping each other through their content battle and this time, the 2-time major champion’s idea was way better and unexpected.

Going three for three years, Johnson won on LIV Golf in Las Vegas after nine months. However, his performance dropped as the season progressed and the 24-time PGA Tour winner had zero runner-ups in the rest of the events. Nonetheless, Johnson has moved on from those results and is practicing a bit differently than usual. The 4Aces GC posted on Instagram and said, “Convinced DJ could take on 99% of amateur golfers with junior clubs.”

What Johnson’s team account was talking about was that the 40-year-old totally ripped his shots on the practice range but he didn’t use normal golf clubs. Rather an iron less than half his height and a driver meant for left-handed junior golfers. Despite the obvious hurdles, Johnson’s shots were precise and straight.

Outside of the course, Johnson rarely participates in any competitive or unique challenges as other LIV golfers do. So, seeing the 40-year-old enjoy himself and make incredible shots stunned the golf fans as they left praises for the pro.

Fans loved Dustin Johnson as he breaks amateurs’ hearts

After joining LIV Golf, Dustin Johnson sort of lost his charm in the golf world. Words like ‘betrayer’ and sellout echoed among fans as DJ made himself one of the best talents on the PGA Tour and just instantaneously he would not be on the Tour anymore. The fans were upset, but it has been three years since that move and people have softened towards the pro. That’s why just by taking the junior club challenge, this fan said, “My all-time favourite golfer. Another golf enthusiast emphasized how difficult it is to use clubs meant for the left-hand golfers when your dominant hand is the right one. And yet, Johnson pulled great shots. Admiringly, this user exclaimed, “Being able to stripe a lefty juniors driver is wild!”

In a month, the two best golfers from LIV Golf and PGA Tour, Rory McIlroy & Scottie Scheffler, and Brooks Koepka & Bryson DeChambeau will go against each other at ‘The Showdown’ and over 18 holes decide who among them is a better pair. Undoubtedly, it will be an entertaining match to watch, but seeing DJ with the short clubs, this fan had another idea for a fun golf match. They suggested, “That should be the next “The Match” DJ with Jr Clubs vs 4 scratch golfers playing best ball. Don’t know about ‘The Match’ covering the concept but DJ and his team, 4Aces GC, may accept the suggestion for their next video.

Before his jump to LIV Golf and his rank dropped to 462nd on the Official World Golf Rankings, Dustin Johnson was a trending golfer. The 40-year-old had an amazing season in 2017 and after winning the Genesis Invitational, he took on the world no. 1 rank. He won three more events that season and remained in that spot for 135 weeks. Thus, seeing him take the amateur club challenge and destroy was impressive but not shocking as this user commented, “@dustinjohnsongolf was #1 in the world for 135 weeks for a reason. That skill is insane.DJ’s record is the third largest as he follows Tiger Woods and Greg Norman on the list. Although many fans were impressed with DJ, this fan wasn’t. They took a jab at LIV Golf Pro and said, “I hit my kids wedge all the time and I feel like I hit it better.

Whether you agree or not, Dustin Johnson has been one of the best golfers of this era and his golfing skills with the amateur clubs just prove that claim right more than before.
