Rory McIlroy was close to ending his Major drought last year at the US Open. Just a couple of holes away from victory, he seemed destined to clinch his fifth career Major, which he hasn’t won since 2014. But fate had other plans. McIlroy faltered with a lead in hand, making two unexpected bogeys on the final three holes, allowing Bryson DeChambeau to swoop in and steal the win. McIlroy quickly disappeared from the spotlight after the loss, avoiding the media and taking some much-needed time off.
But little did he know, the toughest days of his journey were still ahead. Rory McIlroy’s Boston Common Golf team suffered their fourth consecutive loss in the Tomorrow Golf League (TGL) season, leaving them with no room for error moving forward. Their chance of qualifying for the semi-finals is now out of their hands. For this match, Boston lined up McIlroy alongside Keegan Bradley and Hideki Matsuyama to face the Atlanta Drive Golf Club, which had Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, and Patrick Cantlay on their roster.
The team from Boston started strong but couldn’t hold onto their momentum as the match went on. In the triples match, Boston Common Golf took a 2-1 win after securing victories on the 4th and 5th holes. Atlanta Drive only won the 2nd hole, and the other seven holes ended in a draw. However, the singles matches shifted the momentum. Atlanta dominated, winning three holes, including two with powerful performances, ultimately securing a 6-3 victory.

And the fans do not seem to be happy about it either.
New York GC Captures fan’s attentions with their roast
Rory McIlroy lost on the last hole to Bryson DeChambeau at the Pinehurst. It was just a matter of the final putt which he missed. On Sunday, on the eighteenth hole, while The Scientist carded an even-par, the Northern Irishman had to settle down for a bogey. He was 5-under, and DeChambeau was 6-under. One of the fans shared the scores for the final match and commented, “Not cool” while another simply wrote, “Jesus.”
Rickie Fowler is often recognized as one of the most down-to-earth and courteous players on TOUR, maintaining a calm and friendly attitude even during the toughest times in his career. But this past weekend, things were different. During the Cognizant Classic on Saturday, Fowler didn’t hold back when a fan shouted at him after he missed a 20-foot birdie putt. The shot narrowly missed, prompting a comment from the gallery.
While the exact words aren’t clear, Fowler responded sharply with, “Of course you know!” before shaking his head and walking over to make his three-foot par putt. But Fowler wasn’t finished. As he walked away, he added a pointed remark to the fan, saying, “That’s what you are in the stands!” Taking to the fact that he knows exactly where to roast, one of them commented on the post, “*employs Rickie Fowler”. While another praised the club altogether for the mockery and wrote, “Cook @nygolfclub”.
Another fan simply commented, “Man, I know it’s Boston but this is cold”. What are your thoughts on Rory McIlroy’s plight in TGL? Let us know in the comments section below!
