Paige Spiranac needs no introduction for golf fans on social media. A former professional golfer, Spiranac shared her struggles with training and mindset while playing golf and reveals why she has a ‘love-hate’ relationship with the sport.

During a recent episode of her podcast ‘Playing a round with Paige Renee’, the 29-year-old talked about the difficulty she faced that led to her quitting professional golf. She talked about the anger issues she had while playing the sport. Spiranac also provided information on what she did to get over her issues.

Paige Spiranac details her struggles while playing golf

Spiranac talked about how unlike team sports, where if a player gets injured is substituted, golf does not have the same luxury. To stay competitive in golf, players need to be fit regularly and consistent with every shot.

She said, “The reason why I’m not playing professionally is that between the ears for me, I am a complete headcase to the point where I get Yips, I freak myself out. I have like anger issues on the golf course.”

While talking about how she has temper issues, she also adds, “I think for me that golf brings out the worst in me. By far. It makes me so incredibly anxious. And that’s why I was able to love hate relationship with it. I think we can all relate to that because it is so mentally taxing on you.

It’s like a toxic relationship. It’s toxic cycle of some days, you’re playing so great. And then you have a bad day you want to quit and then something good happens. It keeps you back in it. And it’s like we’re constantly in this roundabout of like, we love it. We hate it. We love it. We hate it. And that’s what makes it so taxing.”

Spiranac refered to her relationship with golf as a ‘love-hate’ relationship. She said that whenever she is playing good golf, everything seems to be going right, but when it’s an awful day, it takes a toll on her mental health. Spiranac claims that to play good golf, it is important for the golfer to be in a mentally good place.

Spiranac’s efforts to overcome her troubles

After opening up about her mental troubles while playing golf, Paige Spiranac mentioned that she did reach out to several psychologists. She also revealed to have read self-helping books and performed breathing exercises, unfortunately, nothing helped out.

Spiranac said, “I’m not the best person asked. I’ve seen like seven sports psychologists and I am in a no better place when it comes to golf.” She further added, “There are a bunch of self-help books for golf. There’s things you can do breathing techniques, none of this work for me.”

Though Spiranac’s problems may seem a little heavy on her, one thing is guaranteed that every golfer can relate to her issues as one of their own while playing golf.
