In 2011, Tiger’s season was met with several injury obstacles. While swinging at the Masters of that year, Woods strained his left Achilles. He eventually ended up missing two months of professional golf, which also included the US Open.
Meanwhile, Steve Williams who was Woods’ caddie at the time, decided to keep himself occupied with some other golfer. Williams joined hands with fellow Australian continent golfer Adam Scott. In a 2013 interview, Williams said, “Adam heard Tiger pulled out and wondered where I was. I phoned Tiger about it, and he said, ‘No problem’.”
Nonetheless, after allowing the Kiwi caddie for the Aussie, Tiger Woods had a change of mind. “After some thought, though, he didn’t agree with it. Tiger changed his mind. Well, I’d already told Adam I would be there”, Williams said. But Tiger’s long-time caddie decided to stick to his words and go against Woods’ command.

“I’m a man of my word”, said Steve Williams before claiming he wasn’t aware the decision would lead to his sack. “I had no idea I was going to get fired over it. I also hadn’t worked a lot. Not that I needed the money, but I wanted to work. I was told (by Tiger) after U.S. Open that I no longer had a job and it’s as simple as that”.
Most fans considered the end of Woods-Willaim’s relationship after the 2011 AT&T National Championship. However, the caddie believes the US Open acted as a dead end to their 12-year professional relationship. Nonetheless, Williams remained loyal to his new client Adam Scott and even decided to end his retirement in 2022, to return as the caddie of the Aussie.
