Lexi Thompson is one of the most recognized names on the LPGA Tour. Her face is enough to bring limelight to any event. And in just two weeks she will be appearing at the Finca Cortesin Golf Club in Spain. But things are not as easy for the star player as they seem on the surface.

Thompson is going through a rough drought which she is unable to end this season as well. The 2023 season hasn’t been as fulfilling as she may have expected at the beginning of this year. But showing her full support in Thompson is her Solheim Cup captain Stacy Lewis.

To say that Thompson is in a rough phase of her career would not be wrong. 2023 was supposed to be the revival year for her. But this season she only made two cuts in 10 starts, and 18 of her 24 rounds have been played over par. She hasn’t finished in 10 top all season and her best finish came at the Dow Great Lakes at T15.

Her last win on the Tour came in 2019 at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. Since then she has been on the hunt for another win to save grace and has been in desperate need of it. But Stacy Lewis recognizes the athlete within Thompson which is eclipsed by a bad season. In a special interview with Sports Illustrated, Lewis praised Thompson as a hard worker.

She said, “You’d never know she’s playing as poorly as she is. Just by the way she’s acting, the way she’s going about her business. She never stops working. I think she’s going to figure it out. I really do.” Having the trust of a senior player and that too this captain is a great moral booster for any player.

Young players will be looking up to Lexi Thompson during the Solheim Cup.

Lewis has put a big responsibility on the shoulders of Thompson. Having the most experience of the Cup, she will be providing helpful pointers to the young girls.
