The 2023 Ryder Cup concluded in a shocking upset for Team America. Europe romped home to a 16 1/2 – 11 1/2 victory, securing their consecutive seventh win on European soil. After the weekend scene in Rome, many American players took to social media to express their views about this year’s event and their team. However, most of their posts met with backlash.

Justin Thomas congratulated Europe on their win on Instagram, and Max Homa took to Twitter to post about his love for the American team’s camaraderie but both received criticism because of their performance on the course. Now, another player has posted something similar on his social media, only to face yet another wave of criticism from the public.

Xander Schauffele, the PGA Tour pro had a tough weekend in Rome. The player featured a total of four matches and lost three of them. On Friday, he played the foursomes and the Fourball and lost both matches. On Saturday, he played foursomes with Patrick Cantlay against European opponents Tyrrell Hatton and Jon Rahm and lost with a score of 2&1. In the Sunday singles, though he earned a win against Nicolai Højgaard, his overall performance at this year’s Ryder Cup was 1–3–0, which quite frankly has put him under public scrutiny.

On Wednesday, Xander Schauffele took to Instagram to post about his 2023 Ryder Cup experience. The carousel post consisted of pictures from the greens, some featuring the Team and his caddie.

The caption on the post read: “What an honor it was to represent the USA alongside my teammates @rydercupusa 🇺🇸 couldn’t have asked for a better group of guys to run with.”

In the comments section, fans expressed their bitter sentiments about the team’s performance, and needless to say, most were disappointed and made sure to express it.

Only one with no hand over heart during national anthem!

A user seemed to be agitated about the Sunday test and said, “How can you say it was an honor when you almost got kicked off the team trying to hold out for money? How much do you need? Go play for LIV.” The fan referred to the reports that Xander as well as Patrick Cantlay wanted to be paid for their Ryder Cup participation.

Talking about Cantlay’s recent wedding pictures that came out after the Ryder Cup, a user blew a fuse. “You clowns scheduled a bachelor party the week before the Ryder Cup?” Another netizen questioned Schauffele’s performance on the greens and stated, “Considering the comments from your father, and your uninspired play (how many must-make putts can you leave 3 feet short?!), it doesn’t really seem that you were feeling that honored to be in the Red, White & Blue.”
