To play a renowned professional in the Pro-Am is amazing, but to have Tiger Woods share the field with you is a dream. Ben Lamb, a professional poker player, had this dream come true. In February 2023, Lamb golfed with the GOAT in the Genesis Invitational Pro-Am. The event was held at Riveria Golf Course, America’s iconic golf course.

The 2011 World Series of Poker Player of the Year was called upon to share this out-of-the-ordinary experience at GOLF Subpar. On the podcast that’s hosted by the former PGA Tour pro Colt Knost, and Jicky Jack legend Drew Stoltz, Lamb enlightened the world with his transcendent experience playing with the golf champions!

The podcast began with Lamb narrating how he had failed at delivering a good tee shot. He went on to address the difficult playing conditions and reasoned his unsatisfactory shot. “I don’t know, Tiger effect is real,” he stated. The professional gambler recalled the five-time Masters winner’s hit off the back tee, almost 40 yards behind him. The shot was followed by a confident “Should I hit driver?” from Ben’s side. To which Lamb added, “He says ‘Can you a draw a 3-wood?’ And I said, ‘Of course I can draw a 3-wood.’”

Ironically, he didn’t.

Woods response to the missed shot was to justify it with the help of playing conditions. Lamb praised Tiger and said, “He’s like, ‘Ah, the wind hit that one. No problem,'” This kind of experience boosts the confidence of an amateur golfer, and what better guidance than one provided by the GOAT himself?

Nevertheless, the game continued, and Ben Lamb found himself delivering the worst shot in front of the 15-time major winner. Ben said, “I duck hooked it in the left trees and there’s an electric box which I didn’t see.” He chucked and added, “I had a hybrid, and I was kind of going up and through these trees to the right, which was pretty impossible. But I’m trying to make birdies, you know, so I’m going to go for it.”

He added,  “I didn’t see the electric box until I heard it. It was loud, and it hit hard, and it went like all the way back behind like the 30 people in the fairway with the cameras and all his people and whatever.” But fortunately Woods once more had his back!

Woods gave the amateur golfer pointers during the game

Although the shot was followed by a disappointed look from Ben’s caddie and brother who asked him if he wanted to continue playing the 5th hole. Lamb rebutted, frustrated, “Go pick up that f****g ball. Don’t look at me. Don’t talk to me. We’re done with this hole. I’m going to the next tee box.”

Despite a bad delivery and some embarrassing moments, the event will forever be a memorable experience for golf enthusiast Ben Lamb. Not only did he get to play the game he loves, but he got to do it alongside the star of the game, Tiger Woods.

Woods proved his professionalism even more by providing Lamb with advice. He knew that the poker player had his bets going on and wanted a win for the poker star. “Yeah, he was giving me some reads,” said Lamb gratefully. “I mean, he knew about my bet. He wanted me to win my bet.”
