Prior to the new Tour’s June debut, McIlroy famously dubbed the concept “dead in the water” in February of last year. He also first harshly criticized the rival Tour and Greg Norman.

After acknowledging in March that LIV has helped all elite professional players, he also admitted to The Guardian that “there’s more to life than the golf world and this silly little squabble that’s going on between tours.

“It already has had significant relevance because it’s made the PGA Tour innovate and adapt,” Mcllroy expressed his opinion to BBC NI. “It’s pushed the PGA Tour to make these changes that will hopefully consolidate its long-term future. There is no doubt that LIV has come along and it’s benefited everyone that plays professional golf at a high level. I’m not disputing that.”

Rory McIlroy is a four-time major champion and one of golf’s most well-known personalities. He has long been linked to the conventional golf circuit. But his most recent public endorsement of LIV Golf represents a considerable diversion from the established course. And, it also shows his readiness to accept innovation.

Greg Norman is glad to see McIlroy’s change of heart

Over the past few months, Greg Norman was enjoying reading McIlroy’s statements.

Speaking about the 4-time major winner’s involvement, Norman said to BBC NI, “I am glad Rory is starting to maybe see the light a little bit.”

He also added, “I am glad Rory has recognized that LIV really truly identified how antiquated the PGA Tour was. I am glad Rory is recognizing LIV has been a leader in getting the PGA Tour to try and follow us. Why have we done that? Because of the players.”

In addition, the LIV CEO told BBC Northern Ireland that he is leaving “all options open” regarding a potential event in Ireland in the upcoming years. The Irish Open, the only DP World Tour event held in Ireland each year, and the 2027 Ryder Cup will both take place in Limerick’s Adare Manor.

“I have built golf courses there, which I am very proud of, so from my perspective, of course, we are going to keep all options open,” Norman expressed his view.
