Watson told ESPN they paid him behind closed doors to appear at the tournaments. Yes, you read it right. According to Watson, the PGA tour was going against the rule and giving money for years to Watson to show up. He said, “I was paid behind the closed door to show up at the tournaments, many tournaments.”

Watson finds it funny how PGA has been carrying out this business for years. However, the point is, if the pro was playing at the tournament, he would be making extra money. Therefore, the former no.2 was not so sad about it as he talked about getting paid either way. He gets paid to show up at the tournament if he does not make the cut. If he makes the cut, then, of course, he will get the money for playing. This way or that way, Watson revealed that he was not at a loss.
