Jena Sims' fear for her son's safety—Are schools doing enough to protect our children?

Imagine you send your kids to school in the morning and they don’t return home, ever. No, we are not trying to be insensitive, as this was exactly what happened at the Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. The incident sent shockwaves through the community as the students were rushed for safety and were gathered at the football stadium. Emergency responders and police were rushed to the scene, and they quickly started working against the clock to keep everyone safe. Thankfully, they were able to take the alleged 14-year-old suspect into custody.

While many entities and their spouses will try to steer clear of controversies like these, Brooks Koepka’s wife, Jena Sims, spoke up about the horrifying incident on her Instagram story. Sims posted a screenshot of a new article on her story and expressed her concerns in the caption. “This is so f**king sad. My rival high school in my hometown of Winder,”  said Sims. She spent her childhood in Winder, Georgia. She graduated from Winder-Barrow High School in 2007. One can only imagine how concerned she must be that something so horrific was endured nearby.

According to authorities, the shooting claimed the lives of four individuals, and their identities have not been released, as reported by the New York Post. Many others were also struck by gunfire and are currently receiving medical attention for their injuries. And who else understands the pain of losing a child more than a mother? Sims and Koepka have a kid of their own named Crew Sims Koepka, who is only a year old now, yet Sims is scared to send him to school someday. “Makes me terrified to send Crew to school one day. Praying🙏🏻”, the caption read further.

Sims has always been outspoken and has not shied away from expressing her opinion, so this time was no different. The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office came forward and informed the public about the casualties: “Casualties have been reported; however, details on the number or their conditions are not available at this time.” This unfortunate incident shook the community to its core.
