“Effortless game and impeccable style” is what defines Rickie Fowler on the golf course. Throughout his career, he has been known for his style. Be it his Sunday orange outfit theory or the quirky shirts that he dons on the greens, he mostly never fails to capture attention with his unique style!

However, his game has not been much ‘effortless’ this season. After failing to make it to the Top 30 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic (T31), he did not appear at the John Deere Classic. He has now been in full swing, preparing for the Genesis Scottish Open, which is set to begin in just a few hours! And well, once again, it was his outfit that stood out.

In his past two appearances at the Genesis Scottish Open, Rickie Fowler has an average score of 1-over with an average finish of 45 (T47, T42). Knowing the urgency of grabbing a win, he has been putting his all in to come out victorious at the event. “I always enjoy coming back to the Genesis Scottish Open, and particularly to this area, where I have great memories. It will be fun to tee it up in front of the Scottish fans again,” said Fowler.

For the practice round on Wednesday at the exclusive Renaissance Club near Edinburgh, Rickie Fowler once again turned all the eyes on him with his attire. He went for an all-white with his regular P hat this time. What made all the buzz was the funky hoodie that he wore on the course. Puma has indeed outdone itself this time. It has shades of blue and red popping out with the designs on the white.

After being sponsored by the brand for so long, there is no doubt that it has given Fowler’s presence an edge. The entire golf community went gaga looking at his outfit for the practice round and is eagerly waiting to see what he brings to the greens in the upcoming four days!

In 2019, Rickie Fowler completed a ten-year partnership with Puma, and the duo has been going strong ever since. It is safe to say that the contribution of the Puma-Fowler partnership has been a significant part of golf fashion. The early stages of his fashion were either a burst of colors on the course or trippy stripes that did the work for them. Taking to his new style, people left comments like, “Insane drip I’m jealous”, and “Ricky Fowler is the GOAT button”. Fashion has evolved, and with it, so has the partnership. Puma and Fowler teamed up to bring abstract designs or solid colors, except for Sundays. His plain zipper hoodie for the first round and the beachy floral shirt for the second round of the 2023 US Open are standing testaments to it.

Abstractness comes out differently for everyone. Something similar happened with Fowler’s hoodie. While a lot of people viewed it as an outfit appropriate for wearing to a Christmas party or any festival for that matter, one of them had a different angle altogether. To them, the circles came off as golf balls, and the lines came off as clubs! They commented, “It’s got Golf Clubs, tees, balls… What’s the problem?” This was probably written in an attempt to defend Fowler from all the little hate comments his outfit was getting.

The world of golf fashion has already been chaotic in 2024, with Nike parting ways with important players like Tiger Woods. Adding to the disaster was Jason Day’s pairing with Malbon, which practically made him a laughingstock in the community. Especially because of his fashion faux pas with the baggy pants and over-the-top hoodies. Not to forget Viktor Hovland getting beyond comfortable at the Pro-Am with his mismatched shorts and polo game. Having witnessed all the fashion disasters, the golf community is ready to take up a new style that looks pleasing to the eyes for the moment.

While one of them loved how comfortably Fowler seemed to be carrying his attire and commented, Rickie is rockin’ that hoodie!” While another, already dreaded from the recent mishaps happening, wrote, “Don’t hate it, I’d give it a shot. Way better than some of the stuff we’ve seen on tour lately.”

Whatever the verdict is, one thing is certain: The fashion icon of the PGA Tour sure seems to have brought a breath of fresh air to the course, and it is lovely to witness. What are your thoughts on the outfit of Rickie Fowler? Let us know in the comments section below!
