Does the massive prize money at the Genesis Scottish Open make golf more about cash than the sport?

After three rounds at the Renaissance Club, Ludvig Aberg is still on the top! Opening the penultimate round with a birdie, and carding a total of seven of them, with just two bogeys in the round, he has increased his lead from Robert Macintyre by two strokes at 17-under. While MacIntyre is enjoying the solo second position at 15-under.

A lot is at stake at the Genesis Scottish Open, and it is among the last few chances to garner a spot inside the top 70 this season. Last year, Rory McIlroy won the championship and took home $1.575 million. While the purse size is still the same this year, which is $9 million, the reward has gotten higher and better.

How much will Ludvig Aberg take home if he wins?

However, after the third round, the field has been narrowed down to just 74 players who have made the cut. Apart from getting 500 FedEx Points, if Aberg were to follow the lead, he would also be taking home a massive amount with him.

Have an interesting take?

Robert MacIntyre after missing the cut at the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open, bagged the second position last year at the event. His victory slipped away by one shot as McIlroy shot a 2-iron from 202 yards, carding a 10-foot birdie. This year, MacIntyre has been observing and amping up his game with every round!

Is Robert MacIntyre’s second victory on the Tour just a round away?

Although Ludvig Aberg has been enjoying his spot at the top for the past two rounds, the chase battle behind him is heating up. From Adam Scott, and Collin Morikawa to defending champion Rory McIlroy, all have landed themselves in the Top 10. However, it was Robert MacIntyre who truly stole the show in the third round, carding a blistering score of 9-under.

If the competition came down to the scores of the penultimate round, it would be MacIntyre who fared the best. This very performance earned him a spot in the final pairing with Ludvig Aberg. This being his home course, MacIntyre enjoys the advantage in terms of comfort. However, his performance in the first two rounds was less dialed in when compared to his performance at the RBC Canadian Open last month, where he grabbed his first PGA tour win.

Nonetheless, if he continues the final round just as he did at the penultimate round, there is a high probability that the Scotsman will snatch away the victory from Ludvig Aberg. What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below!
