The sport of golf is revered for offering opportunities to aspiring pro golfers and promoting existing professionals to be their best on the greens. The Genesis Scottish Open, part of the European Tour, is about to begin.
With the Open Championship on the horizon, scheduled for Tuesday, July 20th, the last of the Open Qualifying Series will determine the final participants on the links. It is the last opportunity for golfers to earn an exemption into the event with their spectacular performance. The field of the Genesis Scottish Open

The Genesis Scottish Open is set to begin on the 13th of July on Thursday. The gameplay which will cover four rounds of 18 holes each will end on Sunday. Not only is the European Tour event going to present the champion with massive prize money, but it will also determine the last three exemptions into the final Open Championship for the 2023 season.
The event has been hosted at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland since 2019 and is scheduled to be held there till 2026. Defending champion Xander Schauffele is all set in the top 5 of the power ranks to attempt to reclaim his title.
Schauffele, along with 74 of the top-ranking golfers in the DP World Tour will be competing for the title. Out of these top 75 golfers from around the world, partaking in the 4-day event, only the top 65 will make the cut, including those who tie for the 65th position. The cut will be decided after round two on Friday.
At the end of the event, if two or more players tie for the winning title, then a play-off on a hole-by-hole basis will determine the winner.
What does the Genesis Scottish Open have in store for the winner?
The Genesis Scottish Open hosted in 2022 offered total prize money of $8 million. However, in light of the recent merger, almost all the tournaments and Major championships have expanded their purses. Therefore, in 2024, the total amount to be distributed to the top finishers this year is $9 million. Additionally, the GSO will also appreciate 500 FedEx points to the winner of the event as per the PGA Tour.
Defending Champion Xander Schauffele, has tough competition this year at GSO 2023. Last year, he took home $1,440,000. With the increase in prize money, the competition is going to be intense. Not only will the top 3 winners get an exemption into The Open Championship, but the FedEx points will also go a long way to boost their standing in the PGA Tour in 2023-24 season.
