Over the years, the world has seen a lot of golf players come and go. However, only a few have solidified their status as all-time greats of the sport. South African icon Gary Player can proudly say that he is one of them. Part of golf’s original ‘Big Three,’ Player is no longer actively competing, but the 85-year-old has just made a massive announcement to his fans.  

It is no secret that Gary Player is old and that his physical fitness is not how it was a few decades back. He enjoyed his prime and played on the PGA Tour for many years. While there is not a lot of golf left in him at 85, Player is still deeply passionate about the game and has exciting news for fans.

Gary Player to play at the Berenberg Invitational ProAm

The Berenberg Invitational has always been an event where golf legends unite. Over the years, a lot of prominent names have competed in the ProAm to put on a good show for the fans.

This time, the Berenberg Invitational will take place at the GlenArbor Golf Club starting October 4. The ProAm begins on Monday and the likes of Player, Fred Couples, Lee Trevino, and many other legendary names are set to participate. 

Gary Player is immensely excited about playing the ProAm and posted a tweet to showcase his feelings.Looking forward to a wonderful event,” he wrote. 

Furthermore, Player also made a tweet from his practice session where he can be seen practicing the chip shot. The 85-year-old does look in good shape ahead of the ProAm.

How many majors has Player won?

Back in his prime, Gary Player was a part of golf’s ‘Big 3’ alongside Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. The trio dominated golf for decades and formed a wonderful bond that was never seen before in this sport.

Gary Player won nine major championship titles between 1959 and 1978. This includes a trio of Masters and Open Championship wins. He won the PGA Championship twice and the U.S. Open once, in 1965.
