Though many golfers require time to earn a reputation in the golf world, very few live up to it in a short period. Bryson DeChambeau was considered the future of golf for his great physique, good looks, and most importantly his astonishing golf talents. But since his expensive move to the Saudi-funded LIV Golf, DeChambeau’s recent form can not only be labeled as underperforming but also as disappointing.
Last year, as many golfers paved their way into the newly founded LIV Golf, Bryson initially rejected the idea of joining them. However, he later became the voice of the lucrative Tour, defending them against the critics and the PGA Tour. But in the process of being the face of LIV Golf, DeChambeau lost his biggest identity.

The Scientist joined the LIV Golf for a reported $125 million signing bonus. He holds one of the biggest contracts in the Saudi-funded Tour. The 9-figure contract was mainly provided to the defector. Thanks to his massive popularity in the golf world. DeChambeau has more than a million followers across all social media platforms, and he also provides insights into his life to fans on his YouTube channel.
While his off-the-course engagement was enthralling, Bryson was among the best golfers on the PGA Tour. It took the golfer only four years after turning pro in 2016 to win his maiden Major at the US Open. With massive stardom and talent, LIV Golf Commissioner Greg Norman expected Bryson DeChambeau to bring his mastery to the breakaway Tour. But the Scientist hasn’t been the same golfer since his $125 million move.
After joining LIV Golf, DeChambeau’s best finish has been the 10th position twice in 11 LIV events. Moreover, Bryson’s performance at Majors has also been on a decline. The last glimpse of exemplary golf from the Scientist was displayed at St. Andrews during last year’s Open Championship. He finished the Major tied to eighth position with a 12 under-par total score.
But his downfall continued at the Masters earlier this month, as he failed to make the cut. Following the Major, Bryson further plummeted to the 178th rank in OWGR. As the LIV Golf management splashed a 9-figure contract to DeChambeau, they must have expected better performance from the golfer. His colleague Dustin Johnson has enjoyed the flashy prize money of the Tour by earning more than $30 million. Meanwhile, DeChambeau’s on-course earnings in LIV Golf stand at 5,157,083 until the Adelaide event.
The Scientist was also given the captain role by the management to lead the Crushers GC team in the lucrative Tour. However, DeChambeau finished the inaugural season as the worst performer on the team. While he expected to start the second LIV Golf season on a fresh note, Bryson DeChambeau’s downfall has only become much deeper. His best finish in the ongoing season came at the Orlando event with 16th position, while in other events he did not even make it to the top 20.
Though golf can be a cruel game at times, for the Scientist, it has been a never-ending story in recent months. With a series of bad performances and barely among the best golfers in Golf Rankings, does the 29-year-old regret his decision of joining LIV Golf?
Can Bryson DeChambeau rejoice in his career at LIV Golf?
Following his move to the Saudi-funded Tour, the golfer was massively scrutinized for his decision. However, Bryson defended it by claiming to use some amount from his 9-figure cheque for the welfare of society. Whether he’s using the funds for himself or for charity, either way, his move to LIV Golf was a massive success, monetary-wise.

But with no cuts and smaller fields, Bryson DeChambeau has struggled to make the cut in events outside of LIV Golf. Nonetheless, the golfer is still only 29 years old with a lot more to achieve. He was promoted by the golf world from a young age and eventually did live up to the hype. Since DeChambeau is currently undergoing a tough phase in his professional life, he has no option but to face criticism.
Nevertheless, all the fuss is part of the game, as nearly every golfer goes through it. As Bryson DeChambeau looks to climb back up from his receding golf form, he will have to face the adversity. But being surrounded by a massive following, it won’t be a challenge for the Scientist.
