Can Charley Hull overcome her hip injury to shine in the Solheim Cup, or is it too late?

Last year’s Solheim Cup was one for the ages. We got to see brilliant performances from Nelly Korda, a first Solheim Cup appearance for Laurie Coughlin, and Charley Hull playing brilliantly through neck pain. Injury may strike again for any of the competitors if they are not careful, and Charley Hull might be in the danger zone once again.

During a practice round on Thursday, Hull was seen splayed out on the grass with a physio attending to her, leaving Team Europe fans worried about the state of her fitness. Charley Hull has not been in the best form, finishing in the top 10 only twice in the last 10 events.

She was later asked about the worrying visuals in a press conference to which she said, “I was just getting it cracked back into place. It always pops out. We have a physio here, Harry, with us all week, so I thought I’d make the most of it.” She was referring to her hip which seems to be a constant worry for her.

In last year’s Solheim Cup, she played with kinesiology tape on the back of her neck. Although Captain Suzann Pettersen said she was not injured, Hull was, in fact, dealing with neck pain that she said was due to a bad night’s sleep on the plane over to Rome and picking up her heavy tour bag. Hull was not operating at one hundred percent by her own admission and said she had to change her swing in order to get through it. The Englishwoman went on to score 11-5-3 during the weekend. But her form is not as good this year.

Charley Hull Hull has been a dominant presence in women’s golf for some years now. However, she had a less successful 2024 than usual. Compared with her lead-up to the Solheim Cup in 2023, she is not nearly in the kind of glittering form that she was last year.

Last year, she had four runner-up finishes in the season, with two in the previous five tournaments before the Solheim Cup. This year, she has made the top 10 only four times with no runner-up finishes and has finished in the top 20 only seven times.

On Friday, she will be facing none other than World No. 1 Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz alongside Esther Henseleit in the Friday foursomes. She will need to muster everything she has to get off to a winning start against tough opponents
