In an ideal world, the talking point of the golfing world should have been the tournaments taking place. Instead, it is Phil Mickelson and the recent revelations about his gambling habits. Rory McIlroy, after a game at FedEx Jude Championship, took a jibe at Lefty.
A comment that sounded more like verbal assault was referring to Phil Mickelson not playing the Ryder Cup this year. The conversation arose from the revelation that Lefty had bet money on 2012 Ryder Cup team, and many players and fans are still stunned at the news. After all, it’s been three decades since the news of Mickelson’s gambling habits, and now people know he bet billions on different sports.
In a recent Twitter (now X) post, Hailey Ostrom shared the video of the Irishman speaking about Mickelson. The reporter can be heard asking about the book excerpt that came out concerning Mickelson, and Rory McIlroy says, “At least, he can bet on the Ryder Cup this year because he won’t be playing.” And Ostrom has shared it with the caption, “Making fun of someone’s addiction seems…pathetic.”

The excerpt here refers to Billy Walters’ book, Gambler: Secrets from a Life at Risk. It is scheduled to release on 22nd August, 2023. Walters was Phil Mickelson’s partner in his gambling days. The excerpt reveals that Lefty placed a wager worth $400,000 on US Team in 2012 Ryder Cup and had close to $1 Billon on different sports.

Hailey’s stance on Rory McIlroy’s video is facing a massive backlash from the Twitter audience. Let’s see what they have to say!
A massive backlash from the golf world
Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson are known rivals. While one stayed loyal to the PGA Tour, another went and joined the LIV league. And the golf world is used to witnessing the two golfers at edge with each other. But it seems like if a third person speaks for either of them, fans will also not stay back from expressing their opinion.
Replying to Ostrom’s tweet, one of the fans adopted to her tone of writing itself.
Being offended seems… weird

And golf mommy’s rival was quick to reply to the comment as well.
Did I say I’m offended? Act offended? It’s VERY hard to offend me lol. I’m saying it’s a bad look for Rory to talk about someone’s addiction.

Fans notice everything. And they remember. In one such instance, a fan expressed that Phil is still at it so there is no point blaming someone else for having an opinion.
Phil literally videoed himself gambling with Bryson at last weeks LIV

Another fan wrote, “Sleezy.” Do you think they are referring to McIlroy’s comment or Hailey’s tweet?

A fan was quite determined to explain how rivarly works to someone who also has her own personal nemesis in the golf world.
Phil can have a pop at Rory, no reason he can’t have one back

Another instance of fans always remember is this reference to Tiger Woods.
If that’s your take you might wanna call half the earth and have them apologize to Tiger.
