If you thought the PGA Tour drama was over for the year, think again. The tournaments might be done, but the players? They’re always keeping us on our toes. With the offseason in full swing, most golfers are spending quality time with family, maybe even putting their clubs aside for a bit. Scottie Scheffler, however, decided to switch gears and channel his inner chef for Christmas dinner—and let’s just say it didn’t go as planned.

The World No. 1 ended up needing surgery after a run-in with broken glass. Yes, you read that right. On Friday, Scheffler’s manager, Blake Smith, released a statement explaining what happened: “On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass. Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery. He has been told that he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks.”

The good news? He’ll recover soon. The bad news? Scheffler has officially withdrawn from The Sentry, the PGA Tour’s season-opening tournament happening next week. The Tour confirmed the news on X (formerly Twitter): “World No 1 and 2024 FedEx Cup Champion Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the PGA Tour’s 2025 season-opening tournament, The Sentry, which will take place next week, 2-5 January at The Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii.”

So what next? According to Smith: “His next scheduled tournament is The American Express,” which is scheduled from 16-19 January 2025.

Well, fans who were hyped to see Scheffler kick off the new year after an incredible season are understandably bummed out.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Scheffler's injury affect his dominance in the 2025 season, or is he still the man to beat?

Have an interesting take?

Fans expressed their worry over Scheffler’s withdrawal

“You make millions with your hands..let someone else carve the turkey next time.” That comment from a fan really sums it up. As a golfer, your hands are your most valuable assets. And risking them for kitchen duty? Probably not the best move, Scheffler. While his Christmas dinner might have been delicious, fans would much rather see him dominating on the course than playing chef for the holidays.

Another fan had a more optimistic (and cheeky) take, saying, “Even with one hand…the man is a killer.” And honestly, that’s hard to argue with. Scottie didn’t just play in 2024—he owned the season. Nine titles, seven of them on the main tour, including repeat wins at The Players Championship and The Masters. And let’s not forget his Olympic gold medal in Paris and the FedEx Cup win at the Tour Championship. That kind of dominance makes him the man to beat—no matter what shape he’s in.

But now, with this hand injury right before 2025 kicks off, fans are understandably nervous. One put it perfectly, “Oh boy does this mean Scheffler isn’t winning 10X this year?” That seems a fair question. After a year as incredible as 2024, everyone’s expecting big things from him again. But now, with this little setback so early? Yeah, fans are feeling a bit nervous.

Of course, some fans are just here for the good vibes. One simply said, “Wishing Scottie a speedy recovery!”  Because to be honest—golf just hits differently when Scheffler is in the mix.

And of course, there’s always that one fan who loves to throw in a spicy comment. “Good news for the other guys. One more tournament they have a chance to win.” Well, it may sound harsh, but they’re not entirely wrong. When Scheffler’s in the field, he’s always a threat. Last year at The Sentry, Scheffler finished T5. This time around, with the way he’s been playing—especially after winning the Hero World Challenge not too long ago, he seemed ready to top the leaderboard. But alas! fate had other plans.
