Is Nelly Korda's family-first approach the secret to her 2024 success?

The 2024 season was probably what Nelly Korda always wanted. After a winless 2023 on the LPGA Tour, the world no. 1 turned around her game to be the number one after winning seven titles in the year, including her second major, the Chevron Championship, and the 2024 Rolex LPGA Tour Play of the Year Award. It was truly incredible to witness Korda become one of the best golfers in 2024, even though she couldn’t take the CME Group Tour Championship as Jeeno Thitikul snatched that away.

Regardless of that, the 15-time LPGA Tour winner earned $4,391,930 this season. Outside of the course too, Korda made huge strides as she appeared at the Met Gala as the first women’s golfer and stepped outside of her comfort zone to become the swimsuit model for Sports Illustrated’s 2025 cover. Undoubtedly, Korda’s 2024 season has been abuzz, so what was the highlight for her?

“Honestly, not even golf. It’s becoming auntie to Greyson,” said the 26-year-old when the question was asked at the press conference. Auntie Nelly expressed that watching her nephew grow and seeing her sister, Jessica Korda, form a strong bond with her family has been amazing.

She added, “Puts life in perspective and makes life a little bit more fun,” as per the post round-presser.  Despite how she played in an event, her family would be at home, cheering for her, and always have that smile on their faces once she was back from the game.

Korda’s mood surely lights up when she talks about her nephew, after all, he is the one reason she drives three hours to visit her sister. And she could not wait to spoil her only nephew as he grows up. Her eyes always light up when she talks about Greyson. Earlier this year, we saw this instance as she gave a cure update on him, smiling ear to ear, “He’s a chunker, he’s been feeding well.”

So, for Korda, the coveted titles, the glass trophies, and the millions in her bank account do not hold any weight, but her family does, and their support means everything to her. Korda’s family has grown, she has broken a few records, and the LPGA Tour season has ended. So now will she go back to her family and directly tee up in 2025? What’s in the cards for the 15-time LPGA Tour winner?

Nelly Korda will not hang her clubs just yet

Have an interesting take?

It was indeed a fulfilling season for Nelly Korda and probably a stressful one too because, on top of every victory, the 26-year-old also suffered a neck injury, had to take a month-long hiatus, and, for the first time in her career, missed three back-to-back cuts when her form faltered a bit. Korda rose from all the setbacks and fought till the end, but despite the LPGA Tour season-ending, she will be playing more.

For the next 17 days, Korda will be with her family and adorable nephew, Greyson DelPrete. But after it on December 13th, the 2-time major champion will be at the same golf course, the Tiburon Golf Club, but with Tony Finau as her partner for the LPGA Tour and PGA Tour mixed event, the Grant Thornton Invitational.

Right next week, it will be traveling down south to Orlando for her annual game with Petr Korda at the PNC Championship. Only after this concludes on December 22, Korda will be free and enjoy her off-season to the fullest. Till then, World No. 1 has more games to show and make memories at!
