Ever since the LIV Golf transition, the PGA Tour, of course, has been left with a fewer talented players onboard. One of these remaining stars is skilled, former world number one, Jordan Spieth. The golf ace has been in the news ever since he decided to play at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship.

However, things didn’t seem to go as expected for the player. And despite all his efforts, Spieth had to face strong misfortune at the tournament. But what was the big disappointment all about?

The Wells Fargo Championship has been the center of attraction for millions of PGA Tour fans since the first round on Thursday. With several extremely skilled golfers on the field, fans are currently on their toes rooting for their favorite players to win. However, with two rounds still to go, there are some who have already made their way out of the field with rather disappointing performances.

Notably, one of these pros is Jordan Spieth, who ended up missing the cut in his first appearance at the tournament. The three-time major winner was one of the biggest players to miss out on the title at Quail Hollow Golf Club. Not to forget, he also lost his recent playoff against Matt Fitzpatrick at the RBC Heritage tournament.

The American made a decent opening hitting a 72 with three bogeys to end the back nine. But unfortunately, it was too late for him to recover from that. He eventually made three bogeys and a double-bogey on the front and finished at 77 with an eight-stroke difference to miss the cut. This left the fans deeply upset, especially after the built up excitement in the fans after his fan page, Spieth Legion, tweeted about his participation last week“J Spieth will play the Wells Fargo Championship for the first time in his career,” the tweet said.

How much money will the winner make in the Wells Fargo Championship?

With a field packed with some of the best players in the golf fraternity, the tournament features a total purse of $20 million. And as far as the winner’s share is concerned, he will pocket a guaranteed $3.6 million check along with the prestigious title. On the other hand, the runner-up will also be earning a pretty decent amount summing up to $2.18 million followed by the third place holder receiving $1.38 million.

With Wyndham Clark currently tied with Tyrrell Hatton and Nate Lashley on the top of the leaderboard, the competition is pretty tough this year. While famous stars including Justin Thomas, Xander Schaufelle, and Adam Scott are tied for fourth along with two others.The only certainty is that it still is anyone’s game!
