Winning a golf major is such an exhilarating event that players don’t forget that rush; even when months have passed and they’ve made it into the much-awaited and acclaimed Ryder Cup team as 1 of 3 confirmed players. Such is the story of one PGA Tour Pro and his incredible Major title and green jacket.
To win the title was hardly a surprise but this story has a brilliant veteran player and his invaluable advice that seemed questionable but ultimately turned out to be a diamond in the rough. Jack Nicklaus is well-renowned in the golfing community and his uncanny advice brought a young golfer his second major title with a bang!

Jon Rahm has quickly become a fan-favorite in the golfing fraternity. His swings and putts are always delightful to watch, especially when he is chasing a good score to claim a win. The Spaniard has 11 PGA Tour titles to his name including 2 major titles. 4 of those wins are from the 2022-23 season alone.
The 28-year-old player was fortunate enough to receive a piece of invaluable, albeit somewhat strange advice from veteran golfer Jack Nicklaus who told him his routine before any major tournament. While speaking to Golf Digest, Rahm explained that Nicklaus told him to “go to the venue, play Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or something like that“, and then head home. The next part of the advice included putting away the golf clubs and not touching them over the weekend or into the beginning of the week of the Major tournament.
Of course, the young golfer was skeptical at first but the Golden Bear assured him that he did that for all the Major tournaments he played. Instead of obsessing about his game, Nicklaus spent time with his family and put the royal sport out of his mind. Come Thursday, the renowned golfer was shooting to win. He has 18 of those titles to his name to prove his point.
Even though the advice was somewhat surprising for Rahm, he followed it right before his appearance at the Augusta National, and lo and behold! He won the 2023 tournament with a 12-under 276, 4 strokes ahead of Phil Mickelson.

The Spaniard’s take on the Golden Bear’s advice
Rahm took his own approach to the wise words shared by the renowned golfer. He did have an amazing round before stowing away the clubs. That day he started the round with an eagle and ended up making a 60. He spent time with his buddies, drinking and having fun, and then, at the 2023 Masters Tournament, he blew everyone out of the park. He scored his second Major win of his career and earned the coveted green jacket, which he admittedly sometimes forgets about until he passes by it.
The takeaway from the story for the young golfer was to always heed the advice of his seniors. Jack Nicklaus has been around golf courses long enough to earn the title of Golden Bear and host his own tournament. His wise words were certainly a turning point for Rahm’s career.
