Greg Norman led LIV Golf Series to commence in June 2022
The Saudi-backed LIV Golf Investment recently shared its schedule that shows the series will begin just a week before the 2022 U.S. Open. The first event will be played at Centurion Golf Club in Hertfordshire on June 9, 2022. The series has a $250 million prize fund in the first year itself.
This has attracted plenty of PGA Tour and DP World Tour pros. However, no player has confirmed his association with the LIV Golf Investment Series yet. Previously, a few reports were suggesting Bryson DeChambeau’s involvement with the Saudi league. Furthermore, Phil Mickelson received a huge backlash for his comments about the PGA Tour, for which he had to issue an apology. However, the apology was of no use, as few fans thought this was not genuine. Hence, Phil has taken an indefinite break from professional golf and has lost the majority of his sponsors. Moreover, he even missed the Masters for the first time in 28 years.
The PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has already made it clear that any player joining the rival league will face a lifetime ban from the PGA Tour. However, Norman has challenged this decision, saying players are independent contractors, and the PGA Tour cannot ban any player from participating in a particular league.
