From Arnold Palmer to Tiger Woods, golf has seen several legendary players who have taken the sport to the next level. However, few can claim to have witnessed them all in action. Wayne Riley, an Australian professional golfer turned commentator, definitely can.

Riley spent nearly twenty years on the European Tour and has also played on the PGA Tour of Australasia. Post-retirement, he chose to extend his connection to golf by working with Sky Sports. He is an on-course commentator for the European Tour coverage and is, undoubtedly, a familiar voice.

After being a part of both sides, Riley surely has a clear sense of what makes a champion. Moreover, in a recent appearance on the Offcourse podcast with Claude Harmon, he gave his thoughts on the golf legends. Let’s see what he said.

Riley thinks another Tiger Woods will come along

When the topic of legends like Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus is being discussed, it is natural to wonder whether similar golfers will come to take their place. And while it may be difficult for many to imagine someone achieving as much as Nicklaus or Woods. Wayne Riley clearly thinks it will happen and how we will see someone will chase these legends down.

“[Tiger Woods] is the best player that’s ever lived, no doubt,” Riley said. “But Jack Nicklaus has the best record. There’s two different things. But we will see another Tiger Woods and another Jack Nicklaus.”

Explaining what he meant, he said, “Jack Nicklaus taught Tiger how to win, what it’s all about. Tiger’s chasing him down. So someone’s gonna chase Tiger down. I honestly believe — hopefully, in my lifetime — we will see someone get to Jack’s record.”

“We will see someone — and it might be Tiger! — if he comes back,” he said. Resonating the sentiments of millions of fans, he remained optimistic about Woods’ health and said, “Hopefully, he does. The operations are going well, he keeps himself to himself like he always did, good on him. But I believe someone will come along and will be a stud once again.”
