Ever since joining LIV Golf, Phil Mickelson has had his share of backlash from the golf world. However, despite the hatred, a fact that remains in place is that ever since his debut in 1992, Mickelson has been one of the biggest assets of golf; in particular, of the PGA Tour.

With his impressive record in the game, in 2012, the 6-time major champion was inducted into the prestigious World Golf Hall of Fame. Coming in through the PGA Tour Ballot, Mickelson received a whopping 72% of the total votes. Celebrating the induction, the then PGA Tour commissioner, Tim Finchem, opened up about the importance of having Mickelson on the tour.

Speaking in a black tucked-up suit, Finchen said, “Phil brings great value to our audiences to our sport the way he does and he brings great value to all the stakeholders on the PGA Tour.”

Digging in the career of Mickelson, till 2012, the American sensation won 4 major titles, a 5-time runner-up finish at the US Open, and 36 tour titles. In addition to that, he also reached a career-high ranking of World No.2. However, he made sure to not just restrict himself to the game. Apart from playing golf, he also gave his all to give back to society through the Phil Mickelson Foundation.
Recognizing the tireless efforts of Mickelson, Finchen further said, “More importantly, and outside the ropes, and because of his incredible competitive performances, and the way he has handled himself and his great deportment over the years, along with his support for charitable efforts and recognizing our men and women in uniform, his role with his wife Amy with the Phil Mickelson Foundation…”
Over the years, with his impressive performance, Mickelson succeeded in creating a colossal fan base for himself. A fan base, that backed the 3-time Haskins Award winner through all his thick and thins. On the other hand, making sure to address the fan love, Mickelson also made sure to give it back to them every time he stepped onto the golf course.

Opening up about Mickelson’s love towards his fans, Finchem ended by saying, “…for all those and many other things Phil does including just being out here every week playing and signing an enormous amount of autographs, he contributes so much to the number one asset of this sport and that is the image of the players.”

Ten years since his induction, Mickelson continues to be an asset to the game. Even though he is receiving a major backlash on his decision to move to LIV Golf, his fans have made sure to protect the now 52-year-old from the slamming.
