Is Scottie Scheffler's slump just a phase, or are we witnessing a career downturn?

Scottie Scheffler has it all in the 2024 season, from winning his green jacket to being an Olympic gold medalist and amassing seven total victories, the world no. 1 has been on a consistent rise in the golf world. Not only that, after winning 7 times in the FedExCup season and adding a few bonuses, he amassed over $60 million in just a season.

But Scheffler’s success on the PGA Tour could never have been attained if he had failed the Korn Ferry Tour stage, which his father, Scott Scheffler, thought he might. In an interview posted by Korn Ferry Tour on Instagram, world no. 1’s father refreshed his memory of how Scheffler transitioned from an amateur to a pro and started playing on KFT in 2019. He was assured about his son’s success in golf but, he said, “I always knew Scottie could be successful if he could get to the PGA Tour. I didn’t know if he could get through the Korn Ferry Tour.”

Scott Scheffler’s doubts were cleared when the 13-time PGA Tour winner won two events on the Korn Ferry Tour and led the season-long point list, earning the 2020 PGA Tour card. Scheffler’s father further added that his doubts stemmed from being unaware that Scheffler could shoot 28 under week in and week out and accepted, “Obviously, I was wrong.”

Scheffler indeed broke all the lowered expectations that were put on him in the 2024 season. The 28-year-old has been ranked a world no. for more than 100 weeks and consecutively, for more than 67 weeks. And courtesy of his dominant play, after a decade, the golf world finally saw someone a little similar to what Tiger Woods once was. For someone like Scheffler, who has golf as his fourth priority in life, his success is quite stunning and even his father is in awe of it.

So to see him at the top of his game, Scott Scheffler said, “To get to the level he is now in, you know, the last 20 months has really been astonishing to watch. And it’s almost surreal.”

Additionally, Scott Scheffler also relayed how fun it is to watch him play and bag trophy after trophy as he stumps everyone out with his dominant form. He was glad that seeing his son play brought joy to many fans and was proud of how far Scheffler had come in relatively a short time. But it could not have been done without his family’s support.

After winning the TOUR Championship, Scheffler penned a heartfelt message to his wife and family. He joked that his parents and sister had been to way too many golf tournaments in a year, and despite all, they still supported him. He was grateful and thanked them for their efforts, while nothing that he would be spending more time with his family. Although his success at first looked a little bouncy to Scott Scheffler, his son proved it all wrong and has emerged as one of the best golfers of the decade.
