The PGA Tour is moving forward in the direction of better technology and hence better golf. With its players choosing to record the accuracy of their plays via innovative tech, the TOUR has also upped its game while tracking and reporting the analysis of a game of golf.

Previously, Justin Thomas and Rory McIlroy could be seen wearing a one-of-a-kind band to track their games and health. Now, the Tour has jumped on the tech board and is opting for a far better resource than they have ever used.

In September, Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas were reported to be wearing a band named WHOOP. The band is used to keep track of players’ health before and after they play and makes comparative data to help the golfers. The PGA Tour also depends on technology to track the shots and make data-driven analyses like stroke gained, driving, putting, distance, and all the things we see while watching the game.

The league depends on a scoring system called ShotLink. The system has a rigorous setup with a bunch of optic fibers, cameras, and energy required to keep the data and then transfer it in minutes. Thus, to equip better tech, the league is testing out the newest sets of equipment on players. A recent tweet on X by Dylan Dethier revealed the new tech.

The 20 PGA Tour golfers are now playing at the Hero World Challenge in Albany, Bahamas. The golf writer reported that the players were wearing a distinct band on their hips. The band is supposed to locate and record the “play-by-play and strokes gained” without relying on ShotLink, a system the TOUR has used since 1999.

The PGA Tour has not revealed the name of the tech as it is going through testing and won’t be seen on the official rounds of the Hero World Challenge. The Bahamian event will start its first round on the 30th of November at 10:46 a.m. with Brian Harman while the comeback king, Tiger Woods, will start an hour later.
