Golf is often called a gentleman’s game, and rightly so. It is very inspiring to see the players stepping beyond their duty to the game for just causes. Golfers like Rory McIlroy came out to be cut from the same cloth, as the PGA Tour pro was seen fulfilling a heartening request from one of his fans earlier, which earned him the title “ambassador of golf”.
But now, following suit, two of his Irish counterparts have also gone ahead to join hands in a fabulous gesture to support the people in need. You might be wondering what cause the golfers are supporting and what it is that entails their inspiring purpose. Well, let us now take a closer look at the story.

The Horizon Irish Open is well underway at the K-Club Ryder Course, and the golfers are on high alert as they enter the weekend. Many on the leaderboard have managed to capture the hearts of the golf community with their performances, but none have done so as much as McIlroy. And now, following in the good example set by the 24X PGA Tour winner, his Irish peers Padraig Harrington and Shane Lowry have also extended their hand to the children who are in need of help.
The duo would donate $535 for each birdie they make in the tournament. The proceeds would be donated to Make-A-Wish Ireland, which is a foundation that takes care of children who are diagnosed with deadly diseases. It is the event’s official charity that strives to grant wishes to kids who are suffering from severe health issues.
As of now, Harrington and Lowry have managed to score seven and thirteen birdies, respectively, in the first two rounds. This has led to them raising their donations to a total of $10,700 with $3,745 coming from the senior pro and the rest of $6,955 from the latter, with two more rounds to go. This has indubitably turned the duo into legends, as the fabulous gesture makes way for the children who are in need to get the required help.
