The rebranded version of LIV Golf gave fans the hope of this season being an exciting one. With four new teams and a new name, the LIV Golf League was reaching heights. However, after Tiger Woods winning over Greg Norman, the latest update is deemed to be the major setback for the Saudi-backed circuit this season. And it is not just one but two reasons for the circuit’s worry. What are those?

The injury leads to the misfortune of the LIV Golf League

The official Instagram handle of Cleeks GC has posted a big update that will sadden the fans. Laurie Canter will replace the captain of the team, Martin Kaymer, due to his wrist injury. This will be Canter’s third LIV Golf match of 2023.

In the individual standings at the most recent event of the LIV Golf League in Tucson, the English-born Canter placed 30th. The team will now have to settle and strategize again according to the strengths of the teammates. Tiger Woods had already defeated Greg Norman, and now another setback has happened.

But that was not it. Another setback knocked on the doors of LIV Golf when Anirban Lahiri withdrew from the match for personal reasons. The 2019 U.S. Amateur winner, Andy Ogletree, will be his substitute. On the Asian Tour’s International Series Order of Merit, Ogletree is presently in first place. The player with the highest Order of Merit standing at the conclusion of the 10-event International Series will be granted access to the 2024 LIV Golf League season.

Ogletree will be a part of the Crushers GC squad that won in Mayakoba to start the year 2023. The team led by Captain Bryson DeChambeau, which also includes Charles Howell III, the Mayakoba individual champion, and Paul Casey, is presently in third place in the standings. The sudden change in team members might cause some problems despite them being skilled golfers.

After hosting the LIV Golf season premiere back in February, the Tiger Woods-designed course will replace the Greg Norman-designed course. El Cardonal, the first course created by 82-time PGA Tour winner Woods and TGR Design, was inaugurated in 2014. Along with the Mexico Open at Vidanta, it will hold one of two Mexican tournaments this calendar year.
