From its inception in 2022 to the $3 billion merger, LIV Golf has been an eyesore for many in the community. The effect was especially felt on the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour when many of the top golfers, including Phil Mickelson, left the circuits in search of a better offer of sorts.

However, this did not stop the Saudi-backed league from being embroiled in rumors and controversies, leading to the CEO, Greg Norman, and players like Mickelson coming forward in assurance. And, on top of the affirming words, the Middle Eastern circuit has come out with guns-a-blazing as they came up with a new innovation to throw off the PGA Tour from its game.

When the PIF-funded league was formed, it was seen as an opposing force to the PGA Tour and the European Tours owing to its different format and player relegation process. And now, in a surprising turn of events, LIV Golf has introduced the first ever “drone tracing” technology to its events.

The league made history by adding the same to the LIV Golf Team Championship that is currently underway in Miami. Moreover, they were able to utilize the ‘innovative technology’ to showcase the match between Brooks Koepka and Mickelson in a futuristic manner.

A post was uploaded on Twitter by Flushing It, which shared a clip of the quarterfinal match. One can’t help but commend the league for “pushing the boundaries on the coverage” of golf. Although the video showcased a limited number of spectators, leading to criticism, the drone shot with the “tracer” was nonetheless a treat to watch.

One thing is for sure: the 2024 season will see golf as a sport grow in many ways that were unimagined before. Moreover, in the case of LIV, this innovation, coupled with the assuring words from Norman and the veteran golfer, does set its future as a bright one.
