Ever had a moment of confusion that turned out to be one of those funny incidents that still get your friends laughing? Golf has always had its fair share of those – from Greg Norman’s caddie grabbing the wrong club at the ’96 Masters to Rory McIlroy missing his tee time at the 2012 Ryder Cup and needing a police escort to make it. These moments end up defining tournaments more than the trophies themselves. Just like the time Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson played that “duel in the desert” match, and viewers couldn’t get over Mickelson’s awkward dance moves during promotional bits.
It’s the unscripted, completely human slip-ups that stick with us, get replayed at 19th holes across the country, and eventually become the folklore of the game. And TGL’s inaugural season has already delivered its own catalog of hilarious blunders that will outlive any championship memories. Despite the cutting-edge technology of TGL’s SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, it was the all-too-human moments of confusion, mishaps, and pure absurdity that made Jupiter Links unforgettable.

Tiger Woods’s epic club selection and the legendary flagstick assault
The moment that broke the internet came during Jupiter Links’ February 19 match against New York Golf Club. Woods, competing just two weeks after his mother Kultida’s passing, faced a routine approach shot when his caddie Rob McNamara called out “99,” using standard caddie shorthand. Woods took the number literally, selected a 56-degree wedge, and watched in horror as his ball landed 99 yards short of the green. “You said 99 yards!“ he protested, while teammates Kevin Kisner and Tom Kim erupted in uncontrollable laughter. Woods later admitted it was “one of the most embarrassing moments in my golfing career,” a quote that trended globally as #99Yards while ESPN’s replay garnered 2.3 million views in 24 hours.

But Woods wasn’t the only one with club selection issues. In the season opener against Los Angeles Golf Club, Kisner delivered a bunker shot from hell, blading his wedge with such force that the ball rocketed directly into the flagstick at 98 mph, nearly taking out spectators. “It almost cleared the stands!” teammate Max Homa yelled, while Woods doubled over with tears streaming down his face. Commentators joked that “the flagstick needs medical attention,” as the impact nearly “sheared the pole in half,” spawning memes including a Photoshopped flagstick wearing a neck brace captioned “Kisner’s Victim.”
The redemption attempt that followed perfectly captured the beautiful chaos that defined Jupiter Links. Kisner’s next shot from a second bunker traveled 57 feet with an improbable touch and nearly holed out, leaving even opponent Justin Rose applauding. “Only Kisner could follow a shank with a near-miracle,” remarked NBC’s Paul Azinger, as the mishap became TGL’s first viral sensation, amassing 4.7 million combined views across ESPN and social media within 48 hours. The flagstick incident so perfectly encapsulated TGL’s entertainment potential that the league later installed a “Kisner Corner” memorial at the SoFi Center, complete with a dented flagstick replica.

Tom Kim’s viral celebration, Woods’ mid-match munchies, and the simulator shot that broke physics
During a February 25 match against The Bay Golf Club, 22-year-old Tom Kim delivered the most absurdly misplaced celebration in TGL history. After sinking a 23-foot birdie putt while his team was getting pummeled 8-3, Kim channeled his inner NBA star, arms outstretched like a conquering hero, backpedaling and shouting, “This is OUR house!” Opponent Justin Thomas couldn’t resist: “Bro, we’re down five—act like you’ve been here before!” This viral moment was soon joined by Woods’ own comedic gem during a March 1 match against Atlanta Drive GC when, after shanking a drive, he turned to a nearby marshal and deadpanned, “Can we get some chicken wings up in here? Extra crispy.” The request, caught on hot mics, triggered a social media frenzy with vendors selling over 400 orders of “Tiger’s Crispy Recovery Pack” wings in the following hour.
The most physics-defying moment came courtesy of Kim’s “Phantom Wedge” shot that broke the simulator’s reality. His 92-yard approach registered an abnormal 52-degree launch angle before appearing to clip an invisible barrier and continue upward, vanishing beyond the simulator’s boundaries. “Did it hit a drone?” Kisner joked, as ESPN added a UFO graphic with the X-Files theme playing in the background. The shot was ruled a lost ball but prompted TGL to introduce a “Virtual OB” protocol capping maximum ball altitude at 150 feet – a rule created specifically because Kim’s wedge was literally too out-of-this-world for their technology.
