You don’t mess with Tiger Woods not when he is arguably the best player the game of golf has ever seen. But if someone does it, they will surely get a blistering reply from the 48-year-old. Whether it is on course or off of it, the 15-time major champion is in a league of his own when it comes to cutting comebacks. Colin Montgomerie would know exactly why Woods might be the comeback king in the golf world.
The senior pro recently emphasized that the 15-time major winner should retire as he isn’t playing as he used to. To which, Woods quite brutally responded that he would decide when to retire and reminded Montgomerie about his lack of major titles, saying, “He’s not a past champion,” so he probably can’t say much to Woods. Similarly, there have been five more situations where Woods turned into a witty mode on that caught many by surprise!
5. Woods plays hardball with the bidder

In 2019, one particular Tiger Woods fan was on cloud nine as the 48-year-old broke his 11-year drought of going major less and winning the fifth green jacket. James Adducci had placed a $85,000 wager on the 15-time major winner winning in the 2019 Masters and Woods did just that, making Adducci $1.2 million. But the fan didn’t stop there, he also made a bet of about $100,000 that Woods would claim all four majors and another grand slam.

Talking about the first bet at the Tiger Jam clinic, Woods praised Adducci, saying it was a “f**king great bet.” However, he roasted the bidder about the grand slam part and said, “Dumbass for the Grand Slam part, though.” So it doesn’t matter if you are a fan of Woods, don’t make irrational choices, or he will come for you.
4. Woods fun banter with Justin Thomas
What’s your perspective on:
Does Colin Montgomerie have any right to criticize Tiger Woods' legendary comebacks?
Have an interesting take?
Justin Thomas is one of the few pros who enjoys great camaraderie with the 82-time PGA Tour winner. This camaraderie also brings some fun banter. The world got a glimpse of it ahead of the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla. JT was asked if he ever discussed Woods’s dramatic win at Valhalla in 2000. He surely did and revealed the playful jabs thrown at him by none other than Mr.
Thomas explained that whenever he talks about that win, Woods teases him and says, “He always jokes that I was probably still in diapers or something like that, it was so long ago.” To give it a fitting response, JT tries to tell Woods how he could have lost the event against Bob May and a missed chance for ‘Tiger Slam.’ However, pointing out how Woods potentially lost at a major might not be as brutal a burn as Thomas probably expects it to be.
3. The 48-year-old’s savage reply to Mark Calcavecchia
Given his success on course and becoming the only billionaire golfer, Tiger Woods flew from one event to another, usually on his private jet. A privilege not many pros could enjoy, at least not Mark Calcavecchia. But he was in dire need of one in the past. Once, Calcavecchia and Woods were playing an event together.
After it ended, Calcavecchia experienced a 6-hour flight delay and texted Woods, “Gee thanks for the lift home,” insinuating how Woods didn’t offer him a seat in his PJ. Instead of sympathy, Woods replied with a brutal two-word response. Calcavecchia recounted Woods said, “play better.” Meaning that if he wants to ride a private jet, he should play better and own one.
After Tiger didn't give me a ride home after a tourney and I was in a 6 hour delay, I texted him and said gee thanks for the lift home. I'm in a 6 hour delay and counting. He said "play better". That was it 😳😳 https://t.co/qtuwdg0gxq

A fan doubted that Mr. T replied that ruthlessly to his fellow pro but Calcavecchia confirmed Woods said exactly the same words and ended the conversation. This was 26 years ago and Woods is probably been an ace when it comes to crushing replies!
2. Tiger Woods roasts Phil Mickelson
The Tiger Woods vs Phil Mickelson! could be dubbed Batman vs. Superman of the golf world. (Who is Batman and who is Superman? That’s up to you to decide). A rivalry that has made a special place in the history books of the sport. Whether it be regarding the various accolades, career money, or roast battles, the 15-time major winner has mostly emerged victorious over Lefty. Going back to The Match: Champions for Charity, Mickelson got a glimpse of how intense Woods could be.
At the fifth hole of the match, Woods was about to hit his ball from 150 yards to the green. While approaching the ball, Mickelson started needling the 48-year-old and asked him to mark his ball, in case it was mistaken by him. In response, Woods thrashed the pro, saying, “You want me to use one of my U.S. Open medals? “ The dagger would have kept too deep as Woods had three of those medals and Lefty had none. Probably the last time the 6-time major winner poked Woods.

1. Tiger Woods had a befitting reply to Stephen Ames’s remarks
Stephen Ames had been a Tiger Woods critic since the early 2000s. Even when the 48-year-old was consistently winning on the PGA Tour, Ames had called Woods as spoiled and someone bigger than the game. The rivalry with Woods didn’t stop there and was the focal point at the 2006 Dell Technologies Match Play when Woods was playing against Ames in the first round.
At that time, the 82-time PGA Tour winner was struggling with his driver and withdrew from the previous event (Nissan Open due to flu). There were speculations that Woods might be unable to display an excellent performance and Ames’s mistake was that he said it out loud. The 4-time PGA Tour winner took a jab Woods and said, “Anything can happen. Especially where he’s hitting it.”

Woods took it personally and defeated Ames by a 9 & 8 margin after making seven straight birdies. With a smirk on his face after winning the match, Woods relayed at the press conference that the motivation behind such a historical run was indeed Ames’s comments. He said, “There certainly was [motivation]. Stephen provided it. I think I did alright today. I think he understands now.” Understands to never mess with Mr.T!
From dominating on-course records to the off-course banter, indeed, it is quite impossible to beat the 82-time PGA Tour winner in this game.
