Who thought an outdoor sport like golf could be played indoors with a simulator? Well, Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy did, and that’s how TGL was born. It was a bit of a hit-and-trial experiment at first—some days, it pulled in massive viewership, while other days, the whole tech-driven format felt like uncharted territory. But in just two months, things have changed. The players have adapted to it, and fans now have plenty of thrilling moments to look back on.
And now, with the final match wrapped up on Tuesday night, we have our first-ever TGL champions! Atlanta Drive GC took down New York Golf Club in a best-of-three series, winning 2-0 to claim the title. The winning squad—Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay, Justin Thomas, and Lucas Glover—walked away with a hefty $9 million prize. Meanwhile, New York’s team of Cameron Young, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, and Matt Fitzpatrick didn’t go home empty-handed, securing $4.5 million for their efforts.
So, let’s take a moment to relive the best highlights from the TGL finale!

1. Billy Horschel’s wholesome interaction with his daughter
Fresh off an impressive T4 finish at the Valspar Championship, Billy Horschel carried that momentum straight into the TGL finale—and, no surprise, he delivered yet again. But what made his performance even more special? A heartwarming moment with his biggest little fan.
With Atlanta Drive trailing late in the second match of the TGL SoFi Cup final, Horschel took a quick timeout—not to strategize, but to chat with someone in the stands. That someone? His daughter. In the middle of all the high-stakes competition, she reassured him with the simplest yet most powerful words: “You’ve got this, Dad. You’re better at singles.”

And just like that, Horschel went on to sink a clutch 17’10” downhill putt, sealing a 4-3 lead on the 14th hole and completing Atlanta Drive’s epic comeback.

2. Billy Horschel blacked out after making TGL-winning putt
Atlanta Drive was down 3-0 after 10 holes. The pressure was mounting, the clock was ticking, and then—boom! They turned it around with some clutch hammer play, capped off by an absolutely insane putt from Billy Horschel.
Facing Rickie Fowler on the 14th hole with New York still holding onto a 3-2 lead, Horschel stepped up and delivered. From over 17 feet away, he rolled it in from the top of the green, and the moment it dropped, all bets were off. He launched his hat, tossed his putter, and let out a primal scream at the crowd.
And in the heat of it all? He literally blacked out. Speaking to ESPN’s Marty Smith after the round, Horschel admitted, “I hit the spot and I knew it looked good and two feet out I knew it was in the hole and I blacked out.” He laughed, adding, “I think I said some [explicitives.] I think I said something about this being my house. It was a lot of fun. I’m loving this man. This is awesome.”
3. A shower of Hole-in-Ones—almost!
New York Golf Club may not have taken home the TGL trophy, but they definitely gave us some jaw-dropping moments. And one of the best? A near back-to-back hole-in-one showdown that had everyone on the edge of their seats.

It all went down on Hole 3 when Patrick Cantlay nearly pulled off an ace, landing his shot just two feet from the pin. Atlanta looked set to extend their lead… until Xander Schauffele decided he wasn’t letting that happen so easily. He stepped up, took his shot, and—boom—landed it just over three feet away.
For a second, it felt like we were about to witness a hole-in-one party!
4. Billy Horschel’s fanboy moment with Joe Cole
Billy Horschel is a huge West Ham United fan—so huge that he once said, “I bought Green Street and watched the movie and absolutely fell in love with West Ham and wanted to be a part of the GSE.” And since then, he has been an ardent follower of the team, often seen using a golf bag with the team’s colors and crest at tournaments.
Well, during the TGL Finals, his West Ham obsession paid off in the best way possible. Former West Ham star Joe Cole stopped by, and Horschel couldn’t have been more excited. The two bonded over their shared love for the club, and to top it off, Cole even signed a West Ham jersey for him.
For Horschel, this wasn’t just a great TGL moment—it was a full-on fanboy dream come true!

5. Justin Thomas teased a little fan by taking his cap at TGL
The Atlanta Drive squad made quite the entrance for the TGL finale, but Justin Thomas? He made sure to leave a lasting impression—especially on one little fan.
As Thomas, Patrick Cantlay , and Billy Horschel walked in, three young boys stood by the entrance, eagerly waiting for a moment with their golf idols. Horschel and Cantlay played it cool, giving the kids some high-fives. But JT? He had something else in mind.
Spotting one of the boys wearing a cap, Thomas casually swiped it off his head—because why not? The unexpected move had the crowd cracking up, and TGL even shared the moment on X, jokingly captioning it, “JT not putting up with the New York fans 😂.”
