Hands down, Kevin Kisner gave us the moment of the day. A stupendous shank that I don’t believe will be topped in TGL. At least, not in the first season. Match day 2 saw Jupiter Links getting thrashed by a much younger, Los Angeles Golf Club.

Tiger Woods descended on the green with Survivor’s ‘Eye of Tiger’ playing in the background; Charlie was in attendance as well. While you already know about these most popular snippets from the second match, have you noticed these other equally important moments at SoFi Center?

Tiger Woods’s mother was cheering from the gallery

Woods’s mother, Kultida was in attendance as her son made the TGL debut. She also sported a Sun Day Red hoodie matching with Jupiter Links GC’s apparel. It wasn’t a good day for Woods in front of mom. But there was one moment when Kultida had a bright smile on her face. On the fifth hole, Woods drained a 9-footer to tie it.

Kultida cheered from the gallery as that was the only saving grace in the first half. Before that Tiger Woods’s hammer backfired as LAGC went 5-0 up on the 4th hole. By the way, that putt made Serena Williams chime in too. “It’s about time,” chirped the 23-time Grand Slammer. Williams and Woods are close friends but in TGL they are on the opposing side. Williams is the co-owner of LAGC.

Kevin Kisner asking Charlie Woods to come down to the TGL arena

What’s your perspective on:

Is Charlie Woods the secret weapon Jupiter Links needs, or just a spectator for now?

Have an interesting take?

How bad was it for the Jupiter Links? Well, at one point Kevin Kisner asked Charlie if he wanted to come and play. Of course, that’s not allowed, and Kisner was probably joking (or, was he?). Woods Jr. was in attendance since the start, working with Dad on his swing before the match started. But the youngster was not impressed with the collective display of the team. Charlie couldn’t hold his laugh after Dad’s 100-foot wedge plunge into the water. Nevertheless, Kisner calling Charlie to join might have just given away what the team missed.  Jupiter Links likely suffered from middle-aged golfers’ unfamiliarity with simulator golf.

Max Homa asking Tom Kim to join

While Kevin Kisner asked Charlie Woods to join them on the greens, Max Homa was thinking of Tom Kim. Jupiter Links benched the South Korean for the inaugural match, as only three players from a team can tee off on any day. After Kisner’s tee shot on the 11th went out of bounds – one stroke penalty – Homa quipped, “Tom Kim, can you please fly here?” Before this, Kisner also blew his approach to the water on the fourth hole.

Justin Rose channeling the inner Ryder Cupper in TGL

You know how fierce Justin Rose becomes in team matches. You’ve seen it at the Ryder Cup. Rose brought that same energy to SoFi Center – he actually came right after the Team Cup victory in Abu Dhabi. The British icon tucked in a 14-footer on the eighth hole. “I’m loving it, digging it and having fun,” said the 44-year-old golfer. Before that Justin Rose drained a 10-foot pressure putt – Jupiter Links threw the hammer in an attempt to dismantle Roses’s confidence. Later on, Rose gifted the LAGC fans with this ‘I-want-to-hand-this-on-my-wall’ picture. He made the LAGC logo with his fingers.

Sahith Theegala showed he is a true Californian

If there was anyone more dedicated to LAGC’s efforts, it was Sahith Theegala. The 27-year-old Pepperdine alum already announced he would donate $150 per birdie and $200 per eagle he makes at the Sony Open to charities working with LA Wildfire victims. On Tuesday, obviously, he was breathing fire at SoFi Center. But more than that, the one-time PGA Tour winner came wearing a LA Dodgers shirt and Lakers socks.

Later on, he also spoke briefly about LA Wildfire victims. “You see fires happening, houses being burned down, people’s lives being destroyed, and when you see it right in front of your eyes, it’s as real as it gets and it’s scarier than any media portrayal. It’s scarier than anything that’s being described.”
