Ian Poulter has recently come up with the claim that the LIV Golf Series was bringing an NBA or F1-style team support for golf fans for the first time. His claims come a few days after LIV Golf revealed an Australian debut for the next year’s event, to commence in April 2023.

Ian Poulter compares LIV Golf to NBA and F1
Talking about the popularity of the Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series, Englishman Poulter was hopeful of more fans watching the league and choosing their favorite teams as in other sports leagues.
“Just the whole aspect of following a team, whether you support Formula 1 or you support a race team or McLaren, if it’s in the NBA and you follow the Orlando Magic, whatever it is, we all have team we like to watch, and for the first time we have that ability every single time we go and play golf. That’s what’s cool,” Poulter said.
Indeed, sports fans are often segregated into fans of various clubs. But how is LIV faring at that count after the conclusion of its inaugural season? While it made a lot of noise, the spirit around fans regarding the controversial league has been largely tepid.
Does Poulter’s LIV side have any fanfare?
46-year-old Poulter spent the first season as captain of team Magesticks GC. The team finished 6th at the overall team standing at the end of the season. Poulter wasn’t able to lead from the front in terms of individual performances, securing merely 16 points throughout the season. He finished at the bottom of the scoring charts among his team members, and 31st among the entire roster.

However, the arrival of Henrik Stenson, whose LIV admission came at a cost, secured the LIV Bedminster event in his debut appearance. It elevated the Magesticks stature amongst other teams. Yet, a look at the official Majesticks GC Twitter page reveals around 2.5k followers. Take Poulter’s examples of McLaren and Orlando Magic and their Twitter followers, which have roughly 3.5 million and 1.5 million, respectively.
However, it should be noted that LIV Golf is still at a nascent stage and will develop over the years. But do you agree with Poulter’s comment? Comment down below.
