2006. Yes, that was the last time John Daly teed off at the Masters. But even though he’s no longer competing, Daly’s presence is still felt in Augusta, Georgia, during Masters week. For over two decades, he’s made it a tradition to set up shop in the Hooters parking lot, just a stone’s throw from Augusta National.

Daly’s impromptu meet-and-greet has become a beloved tradition among fans. He sells his branded merchandise, signs autographs, and happily poses for photos with the Hooters girls, who eagerly share the snaps on social media. With his looming health concerns, everyone thought that Daly would not be there at Augusta this year.

The two-time major winner recently reflected on his three-decade career, joking that he’s “been dead 11 times” and likening himself to Lazarus, who “just keeps coming back from the dead.” Daly’s health struggles are no secret – he’s undergone 16 surgeries in the last four years due to tangled tendons and was diagnosed with bladder cancer, which he’s been in remission from for four years. Daly remains optimistic through it all, saying “Hey, great life” when looking back at a photo of his rookie tour card from 1992.

Facing well-documented struggles, Daly continues to make his presence felt. So, though he’s not a participant at the Masters, his annual pilgrimage to Augusta National is highly anticipated as always. One of the highlights of Daly’s Masters week this year is his regular visit to Hooters, where he’s become a beloved fixture. On the “Like A Farmer” podcast, Daly praised their wings, saying, “It’s the best [the chicken]. It’s … . You can’t beat it.” The 58-year-old has a long-standing love affair with the iconic American restaurant chain, and his partnership with Hooters since 2022 has been a natural fit. In his hypothetical Masters Champions Dinner menu, Daly included Hooters medium bone-in wings as the first course. Maybe that’s his classic choice.
