A year after making her debut as a caddy, Sam Woods is back on the course in an all-family affair. Over the years, Sam has been seen at many of her father’s events including his 2019 Masters win and in 2023 she took things further when Tiger brought her for caddy duties after splitting from Joe LaCava. This year as Tiger Woods and his son, Charlie, take part in the PNC Championship, Sam joined them at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando and had a fun back and forth with her brother.

Team Woods brought their A-game, sitting on top of the leaderboard after Saturday’s round. “We picked each other up, which was great. And Charlie made pretty much most of the putts today,” Tiger Woods shared post-round. And he wasn’t kidding. Charlie had the putter dialed in, sinking enough to give them a 6-under 30 on the front nine.

This was also the first time the father-son shared the lead after the opening round, joined by the last two champions — Bernhard Langer and son Jason, and Vijay Singh and son Qass. But what caught the attention of fans online was the exchange between Woods’ children.

When they got to the ninth hole, things got a little spicy. Charlie’s approach shot landed 10 feet from the pin—not bad, but not his best. As Tiger Woods prepared to take his shot, Charlie cheekily advised his 15-time Major winner father, “Please hit it more solid than me.”  Enter Sam Woods, who couldn’t resist the opportunity to roast her younger brother. Her quick response? “You’re so negative.”

It is not every day you see a caddie roast a teammate mid-round, but hey, that’s what siblings are for. Of course, Team Woods didn’t let the laughs slow them down. They started the back nine with a birdie and then caught fire, stringing together five in a row starting at No. 12.

Woods summed it up perfectly: “We’re right there. There’s a bunch of teams that are up there. We’re going to have to shoot another ground tomorrow. And you know, make a bunch of birdies and hopefully we can do that and get off to a good start, and then develop it into the back nine.”

Notably, the mother of the teens and Tiger’s ex-wife Elin Nordegren was in the gallery on Saturday watching the drama unfold. Tiger and his children also posed for photos on the course after the conclusion of the first round.

Tiger, playing in his first competition since having back surgery in September, looked at ease. He hit quite a few good shots, including a wedge to inches on the short par-4 seventh. “We’re trying to pull off each and every shot for each other, and to ham-and-egg,” Woods said. “And I think we did that great pretty much the entire day. We picked each other up, which was great. And Charlie made pretty much most of the putts today.”

But let’s be real: while their leaderboard-topping performance was impressive, fans were drawn towards the banter between the siblings.

Fans are cracking up with Sam’s quick wit

Even though Tiger has encouraged Sam to be more inclined towards golf, even placing a golf club in his baby daughter’s hand a few weeks after she was born, she has steered clear of any professional commitments. In May, the golf icon revealed on the Today Show that for Sam golf holds a “negative connotation.”

“She has, I think, a negative connotation to the game because at that time, when she was growing up, golf took daddy away from her. I had to pack, and I had to leave, and I’d be gone for weeks, and there’s a negative connotation to it,” Woods said. But she has been involved when her father needs her and isn’t afraid to give it back, as we saw.

Sam’s quick comeback to Charlie had fans cracking up, with one writing, “ok that is by far the best quip of this production lol.” Honestly, this kind of banter isn’t new for the Woods siblings. Woods has mentioned before how they love to “nibble at each other,” classic sibling stuff—teasing, chirping, and keeping things competitive.

Another fan jumped in with, “Big dog on the bag again” referring to Sam caddying for Woods for the second year in a row. So it’s safe to say, she is a hit, and fans love her.

As for Charlie his humor definitely has “JT energy” written all over it. Justin Thomas is all about keeping it light—whether he’s cracking jokes, poking fun at himself, or brushing off a missed putt with a laugh. It’s just his style, and it seems like Charlie’s picked up on that same vibe. A fan summed it up perfectly, writing “Chirping from sister Sam – just too funny! And you can tell Charlie plays with JT… the self-chirps are really great!!”

While Sam has opted not to follow her father and brother into a golfing career, she has been often present at many of her father’s tournaments and also introduced him at his World Golf Hall of Fame induction.

Meanwhile, fans had their takes. One cheered Sam on, saying “yess Sam!  cuz what is bro getting upset about?? lol we are literally just getting started baby ! Team Woods all the way!”  But Charlie fans weren’t staying quiet, with one reminding Sam, “The greats are never satisfied, Sam.”

It’s clear that this sibling dynamic—full of playful jabs and low-key support—is what makes it so relatable and fun to watch. Will we see more of such hilarious banter when the action resumes on Sunday? We won’t put it past Woods’ kids to go at it again!
