Following the American Express last week, the PGA Tour now heads over to Torrey Pines for its current event. The fourt event of the tour in 2023 is currently underway in California. The Farmers Insurance Open is a history-ridden event that is more than 70 years old and began on Wednesday this week. The Tour’s 13th season event features 156 players competing for the title and prize money.

The format and field of the Farmers Insurance Open

The Farmers Market kicks off the 2022-2023 season with one of the most competitive fields yet. As per Golf News Net, Jon Rahm and Collin Morikawa are among the 156 competitors. A total of 13 of the top 20 are participating in the event. Last year’s winner, Luke List, is also back this year and will undoubtedly be looking to defend the title.
The game sees a cut made after the second round, i.e., 36 holes. Only the top 65 players and ties will then proceed to play the two rounds on Friday and Saturday. All the players who finish all four rounds will win a piece of the huge purse.

The event is played across two courses in San Diego. the Torrey Pines north course, and the Torrey Pines south course. The final round will be held on the South Course on Saturday, due to a clash between the NFL and PGA Tour events.
What does the winner of the event stand to receive?
The total purse for the event is $8.7 million. The winner will receive the standard 18% share of the total purse as per the PGA Tour’s prize money distribution chart. Being an official Tour event, the Farmers Open will also have additional perks such as FedEx Cup points and OWGR points.
In addition to the $1,566,000 in cash, the winner of the event will gain 500 FedEx Cup points. The winner will also receive 46 Official World Golf Ranking points, which will be available based on field strength. They will also celebrate with benefits such as an exemption for next year’s Tournament of Champions and a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour.
