Rob Bolton’s annual rankings are regarded as the gold standard in the world of PGA fantasy golf by both players and fans. However, fans are furious about his eagerly awaited 2025 PGA Tour Fantasy Rankings this year, claiming the list is full of obvious exclusions and anomalies. Social media is blazing with criticism as the passionate and meticulous golf community has focused on Bolton’s choices, igniting discussions that have the potential to upend the fantasy golf scene.
Let me highlight if you’re not familiar with Fantasy Golf. Fantasy rankings are a secret tool for the players themselves on the PGA TOUR, so they’re not just for the audience. These rankings, determined by reliability and performance measures, serve as a professional compass and a badge of pride. Strong fantasy rankings can elevate a player’s reputation, draw in big endorsement deals, and solidify their place in the hearts of fans. The fantasy stock rises if the player rules the leaderboard. It’s the ultimate power play.
Rob Bolton, the PGA Tour’s Golfbet insider, compiled the fantasy rankings of the 222 players, which the PGA Tour released on Thursday, December 21. Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Rory McIlroy, Collin Morikawa, and Ludvig Aberg, have performed remarkably in 2024 and were among the top players on the list, but there were also some anomalies, for lack of a better term, including Justin Thomas in fifth place following his mediocre play this season.

Additionally, critics claim that Bolton, who was before admired for his astute observations, may be fading. Some fans assume that he favors more seasoned players in his rankings. “Tiger being ranked ahead of anyone with his current injury status is a take,” stated The Tournament Code retweeting Bolton’s PGA fantasy rankings. Others, however, think he is being cautious rather than taking risks. Bolton’s rankings for 2023 were also under scrutiny as well and many fans expressed their displeasure about it in the comment section. But what about this year? How are the fans perceiving this year’s rankings?
Fans are not quite happy about the 2025 Fantasy rankings
The rankings sparked a lot of outspoken criticism from fans. Many appeared to think that Bolton was showing partiality in favor of a few players. Some of the most vocal reactions were:

“Why is that bum JT at SIX?” fans asked, mocking the Fantasy rating and expressing their displeasure with Justin’s place. That being said, Bolt had a reason, “His lackluster 2022-23 is ancient history, and with his first child, Molly, having just arrived, it could be off to the races in 2025. Exploit the gamers in your league who can’t move on from their fatigue. He’s back.” Thomas and his wife Jillian welcomed a baby daughter named Molly Grace into the world in November 2024. The gender of the baby was revealed just before the ZOZO Championship. JT acknowledged that he was both excited and even a little anxious about being a father. Even while his year on the course may not have gone as expected, JT now has a whole new motivation to pursue those victories because of his new role as a father.
The fact that Viktor Hovland was ranked lower than Will Zalatoris was another thing that people noticed and found disappointing. Compared to Zalatoris’s 2024 performance, Hovaland’s triumphs, especially his FedEx Cup Championship, indicate a more significant year in terms of competitive success. “Having Hovland behind Zalatoris is completely bonkers,” a discontented admirer of Hovland’s wrote in the comment section.
Another fan responded, expressing offense at Luke List’s stance.“Luke List disrespect #teamnoputt,” the fan added. Luke’s second PGA Tour victory came in 2024 when he won the Sanderson Farms Championship. He also placed 75th in the FedExCup rankings and finished in the top 10. Luke, however, only came in at number 136 on the list despite his achievements. Another supporter wrote “Insane Scott Stallings disrespect” to express his displeasure with Stalling’s 221 rank. While Stallings did not win any tournaments throughout the year, he did compete in several PGA Tour events. His best result was a tie for 12th place at the Valspar Championship in March. Additionally, he participated in the Sanderson Farms Championship, where he finished in a tie for second place after a playoff.
